LEONARDO DICAPRIO GIVES OVER 35 MILLION EUROS TO RESTORE THE GALAPAGOS ISLANDS
Star actor Leonardo DiCaprio announced on Twitter on Monday that he was preparing, through the organization Re: wild, to donate 43 million dollars (around 35 euros) to restore the Galapagos Islands (Ecuador).
“All over the world, nature is in decline,” the Wolf of Wall Street interpreter said. We have degraded three quarters of wild spaces and pushed more than a million species to the brink of extinction. More than half of Earth's remaining wilderness could disappear over the next few decades if we do not act decisively ”.
Re-wild is a charity founded this year by the American comedian and a group of scientists specializing in environmental conservation, with the goal of restoring the archipelago.
PRESERVE CERTAIN SPECIES FROM EXTINCTION
More than half of Earth’s remaining wild areas could disappear in the next few decades if we don’t decisively act. This is why today I am excited to launch @Rewild - to help protect what’s still wild and restore the rest. pic.twitter.com/Sxmrx2uhwd

In particular, the environmental actor and his partners plan to reintroduce 13 locally extinct species to Floreana Island, The Guardian reported. The financial windfall will be used to finance a program to breed animals in captivity and to save some species from extinction.
The organization also intends to act by protecting the marine resources of the Galapagos.
On Twitter, Leonardo DiCaprio also highlighted the work done by Paula A Castano, a member of the Island Conservation organization.
The latter was the head of the star actor's Instagram and Twitter accounts on Monday to share his team's actions and the battles with as many people as possible.
