It was 1995 when Melania Knauss, an unknown 25-year-old Slovenian model, took some suggestive photos for the lens of the French photographer Jarl Alé de Basseville. The images - in which she appeared naked and embraced by the Swedish model Emma Eriksson - remained in storage for almost a year and were later published by the French magazine Max, in January 1996. Three years later, Melania would meet Donald Trump, the controversial gringo tycoon who would become her husband and who is now close to the presidency of the United States. Thus, the model who 21 years ago hugged another woman naked could be the next first lady of the most powerful country in the world, even if it is hard to believe.
Although at the time these photos gave something to talk about, only now have they caused a real stir. The reason? The newspaper The New York Post - owned by tycoon Rupert Murdoch, who has declared himself an open supporter of Trump - republished them at the height of the race for the US presidency. "Melania was a successful model and that's why they took pictures of her for different magazines," Trump said, dismissing the images. Basseville, for his part, is inadvertently in the eye of the hurricane.
