For more than three decades, Colombian singer Shakira has been at the forefront of Latin music. Now, she will be performing at the Super Bowl halftime show by surprise. Shakira and Jennifer Lopez are ready to perform some of her greatest hits and put on a sensational show at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, Florida on Sunday. Fans have already seen Shakira rock out on some of the biggest stages in the world, including multiple FIFA World Cups.


This year, however, the Super Bowl is making history with two of the greatest Latinas in music. The performance also includes Demi Lovato who will sing the national anthem. Faced with all of the above, there are many reasons to think that Shakira has become a true icon of music. When she sported her black hair, and carried the guitar in her hand while singing deep, passionate, and anguished songs, Shakira touched people's hearts with her early 90's songs like "Where are you heart?" and "I'm Here" and "Anthology."


The first steps

Shakira's first albums, Pies Descalzos and Where Are the Thieves ?, and her philosophical lyrics exude anguish, desire, melancholy and anger. From "Inevitable" and "You" to "Blind Deaf-mute" and "Barefoot, White Dreams", the singer shows her ever-changing range of hers. The Barranquilla-born singer already had a huge following when she debuted on the US market in the early 2000s. Her English-language album, Laundry Service, gave fans # 1 international chart-topping songs like "Whenever, Wherever" and "Underneath Your Clothes".


Encouraged by Gloria Estefan to cross over and sing in English, Shakira found that the world of American pop welcomed her passionate, unprecedented music. Laundry Service peaked at number 3 on the Billboard 200 chart and topped many charts around the world. The album was certified multiplatinum in the United States, which showed that Shakira successfully climbed into the North American music market. Laundry Service sold more than 13 million copies worldwide and was the seventh best-selling album in 2002.


First on the charts

Her unique and fascinating voice is not the only attribute of the singer. Shakira has been shaking her hips since "Whenever, Wherever," but her 2006 collaboration of hers with Wyclef Jean, "Hips Don't Lie," established her as a goddess of belly dancing.
