"After much thought and a lot of work in our relationship, we have made the decision to end our marriage," explained the now ex-partner, who chairs the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

"We ask for space and privacy for our family as we begin to navigate this new life," they requested after releasing the news.
"Over the past 27 years we have raised three amazing children and built a foundation that works around the world to enable all people to lead healthy and productive lives," the message adds.
"We continue to share faith in that mission and we will continue our work together at the foundation, but we no longer believe that we can grow together as a couple in the next phase of our lives," they said.
