Donald Trump and Greta Thunberg, two opposing visions and lively exchanges on the networks
Two diametrically opposed views on environmental challenges. The 50th Davos Forum opened Tuesday in Switzerland, with two distinguished guests, US President Donald Trump, with claimed climate-skeptical convictions, and environmental activist Greta Thunberg.
They had a brief exchange of views at the UN climate summit in September. In Davos, on the occasion of the World Economic Forum (WEF) organized in Switzerland, everything is done so that they do not cross paths. The American President Donald Trump and the young Swedish environmental activist Greta Thunberg, who multiply the tense exchanges via Twitter, embody two diametrically opposed visions of the world.
Invited to Davos for the second year in a row, the 17-year-old activist will speak once again after the American president during a round table and will open a session in the afternoon with the unequivocal title: "Avoiding the apocalypse climate ".
The openly climate-skeptic billionaire came on his side to praise his "America First" policy. “On our way to Davos, Switzerland, to meet world and business leaders, and bring (...) hundreds of billions of dollars back to the United States! We are NUMBER ONE in the universe, BY FAR” the president, who is campaigning for re-election in November, tweeted on Tuesday.
Heading to Davos, Switzerland, to meet with World and Business Leaders and bring Good Policy and additional Hundreds of Billions of Dollars back to the United States of America! We are now NUMBER ONE in the Universe, by FAR !!
At a rally in Lausanne on January 17, Greta Thunberg, who has become a figure in the fight against global warming, warned: "We are now in a new year and we have entered a new decade and so far, in this decade we have seen no sign that real climate action is coming and that must change. "
"Urging the great powers to change" is the spearhead of the environmental activist who accuses Donald Trump of climate inaction. The US president notably quit the Paris climate agreement as soon as he was elected, favored fossil fuels and stepped up climate-skeptic positions.
"The time has come to leave the Paris Agreement," he said in June 2017, adding: "I was elected to represent the people of Pittsburgh, not Paris".
Donald Trump targets the young teenager on Twitter
The American president had even directly attacked, via Twitter, the young activist just then named personality of the year by the magazine "Time". "So ridiculous. Greta has to work on her anger management problem, then have a good movie with a friend. Relax Greta, relax," Donald Trump posted.
The young Swede then reacted quickly by modifying her biography on her Twitter account, presenting herself as a "young teenager who is working on her anger problems. Relaxing and watching a good old movie with a friend".
Earlier in October, she had already responded to an ironic outing from Donald Trump, who condescendingly referred to her as a "nice girl", writing in her bio: "Nice but ill-informed teenager."
At the end of September, she had already suffered criticism from the billionaire, who mocked her vision of the future by presenting her as "a very happy young girl who looks towards a bright and wonderful future".
