Elizabeth II's plans to celebrate her jubilee including Meghan and Harry
The 70 years of the monarch on the British throne will be celebrated for four days and with several festivities, including a must for the Sussexes
Lovers of royal, pomp, and royal splendor already have our sights set on June 2022. The reason: Queen Elizabeth's Platinum Jubilee celebrations. The monarch turns 70 years on the throne next February, something absolutely historic in the United Kingdom and worthy of celebrating in style. And so it will be. Although you could think that the celebrations would be somewhat smaller than expected due to the death of the Duke of Edinburgh, none of that.
Many appointments are expected to commemorate the seven decades of her reign, both in the country and in other Commonwealth nations. And those plans also include Meghan Markle and Prince Harry, who will hardly be able to avoid meeting with the Windsors. Neither the complete program nor all the details of what awaits us have yet been published, but Buckingham Palace has already advanced something.
At the moment, it is known that the most massive events will take place between June 2 and 5, 2022 and will begin with the Trooping the Color, the military parade that every year commemorates the birthday of Queen Elizabeth. Although it is always celebrated on the second Saturday in June, this time it will be brought forward to coincide with the festivities. And, as usual, it will be a must for the whole family, who celebrate it on the Buckingham balcony. And that includes working royals as well as non-working royals, a category Meghan and Harry fall into.
The pandemic has facilitated that they could get rid of both the appointment of the previous year and that of this 2021, since it has been a reduced celebration, attending to sanitary restrictions. But everything indicates that they will not have any excuses not to attend the one in 2022, since it will also be for a double reason, the birthday of the monarch and his 70 years on the throne, so his presence on the balcony of Buckingham along with the rest of the members of the royal family is more than safe.
In addition, as it is not yet known if they will attend the discovery of the statue of Diana of Wales on July 1, due to the restrictions still in force, Meghan's pregnancy and other reasons, it could be the first time we see the Duchess of Sussex together to the rest of the Windsors for the first time after his departure from the Royal Household.
It is not so clear, however, that they have to attend the rest of the events that will take place on those days, ranging from horse races to a thanksgiving mass, passing through a spectacular concert that will feature top-level artists. Quotes very much in the style of Queen Elizabeth's Golden Jubilee and Diamond Jubilee, when her 50th and 60th years on her throne were commemorated. Both involved a deployment of artists, shows and military exhibitions over several days.
Few forget how, in 2002, Bryan May played the British anthem, 'God save the Queen', on one of the rooftops of Buckingham for the crowd enjoying the party on the esplanade in front of the palace. And no one rules out that the Queen group will participate again in the 2022 show. For now, its components are more than willing to repeat the experience, as they have commented.
But we will know, like everything in the royal family, in due time.In what surely the presence of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle cannot be counted on is for the multiple trips that are also being prepared to commemorate the platinum jubilee of Queen Elizabeth. Different members of the family will visit various parts of the UK and the Commonwealth in the months leading up to the June festivities. But this will be appointments intended only for the current working members, so it is ruled out that the Sussexes can participate in any of them, despite their ties to the Commonwealth, which they have tried to maintain after their resignation.
