Jill Biden and Kate Middleton, between children and rabbits in Cornwall
The first lady of the United States and the Duchess of Cambridge met this Friday during a visit to a school for children with special needs
As part of Joe Biden's visit to the United Kingdom on the occasion of the G-7 summit, the first lady of the United States, Jill Biden, accompanying her husband on the trip, and the Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton, They met this Friday during a visit to a school for children with special needs in Hayle, Cornwall. An encounter that has left images of complicity between the two and some curious pictures.
Biden, a teacher by profession, and the Duchess have arrived separately at Connor Downs Academy at around 12:30 local time. They have talked while walking into the center, where they have visited a classroom with about twenty children between four and five years old. Before entering they were reminded that they had to put on the masks, to which Kate Middleton replied: "Thank you for reminding us." Shortly after the two have agreed to one of the classes, where there was a deathly silence, before which Biden has joked saying: "They are very scared", referring to the serious faces of the students. For her part, the Duchess has affirmed that it was the quietest class that she has seen in her life, to immediately ask the children how old they were.
During the visit, Biden and Middleton also had the opportunity to talk with the teachers and learn first-hand about the teaching system at the nursery school. Then they have addressed different groups of children who were reading Greta and the Giants, a story inspired by the activism of the young Swede Greta Thunberg against climate change. It was then that the Duchess of Cambridge approached the American First Lady to ask if she knew the literary series, to which Biden responded with "I know Greta, of course." In their encounter with the little ones, the two have taken an interest in their Lego drawings and games, while praising their work.
Taking advantage of the visit, Biden, a professor at the university, has highlighted the importance of education from an early age. “It is very important as a base. As a teacher at the higher levels, if they don't have a good foundation [the students] are left behind. It is surprising how advanced they are here ”, she has valued. After touring the interior, Middleton and Biden have gone outside the school to see the rabbits that the children take care of. A moment that has left some curious images like those of Biden carrying some carrots for the children to feed the animals. A moment in which both have commented in surprise the large size of a rabbit called Storm (Storm).
The center's director, Janice Eddy, has detailed to the press that she accompanied Biden that this school, funded by the state, is for minors who have suffered trauma. Before the visit, the minors had been explained what the White House is and they already knew who the first lady of the United States was.
Following their tour of the center, Biden and the Duchess of Cambridge participated in a panel discussion with British experts invited by Middleton, joined by three Americans via Zoom.
This is not the first act Biden has participated in since her arrival in the UK. This Thursday, the first lady went with her husband to meet the British Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, and his wife Carrie. On that occasion Jill Biden and Carrie Johnson shared a few relaxed moments on the seashore with the British couple's son, Wilfred, barely a few months old.
