TOP 10 BEST PERFORMANCES OF LEONARDO DICAPRIO
Some categories of the Oscars were decided long before the show begins, you can bet your house this Sunday that Leonardo Dicaprio will win the award for Best Actor, for everything he had to do including eating bison liver in his performance in The Revenant. This will be the actor's first time ever to win the Academy Award, and all we can say is, "It's about time!"
DiCaprio has been one of Hollywood's biggest stars for decades, and while he's recently focused on titles that have brought him closer to landing that Oscar, his career has been filled with exceptionally strong performances (even if the movies haven't always been very good). To celebrate his career we have decided to make a top with the 10 best performances of him.
10. TITANIC (1197)
It was the movie that made DiCaprio an international star. James Cameron's big-budget love story aboard the doomed R.M.S. Titanic, showed that the actor could combine charisma and physical attractiveness.
9 THE DEPARTED (2006)
Third time that Dicaprio worked with MartÃn Scorsese, in the film that led him to win the Oscar for Best Director. Dicaprio put up a very solid performance as an undercover cop. It's certainly not the best of the Scorsese collaborations, but it's certainly not the worst, either.
8. DJANGO UNCHAINED (2012)
Dicaprio's portrayal as Calvin Candie, the unscrupulous owner of the slave plantation, is undoubtedly magnificent supported of course by the unique brand of Quentin Tarantino's dialogues.
7. THE BEACH 2000
Riding still on the wave of "Titanic" fury, Dicaprio needed to change things and he did it hand in hand with Danny Boyle from "Lord of the Flies." In this film he showed that he was still interested in taking risks, and gave one of the most interesting performances of him.
6. THE BASKETBALL DIARIES (1995)
Speaking of taking risks, this remains one of DiCaprio's riskiest roles, as an addicted schoolboy seeks his way to redemption. Trying to make that tough transition from child actor to adult, there he showed his fierce determination.
5. THE AVIATOR (2004)
His Oscar-nominated performance as legendary mogul Howard Hughes is one that should have given him the Oscar. Playing Hughes through every stage of him, from Hollywood director and groundbreaking aviator to recluse, was a feat few could accomplish. But he did it exceptionally.
4. WHAT'S EATING GILBERT GRAPE (1993)
Chances are, you've never heard of DiCaprio until this Oscar-nominated performance, where he played Johnny Depp's disabled younger brother. DiCaprio showed many people all the potential talent that he had at 19 years old.
3. CATCH ME IF YOU CAN (2002)
Another milestone for DiCaprio, the film features his portrayal of the famous real-life forger Frank Abagnale, from his teens to 20s, and is believable in every way (the actor was 28 at the time of release). The mix of Steven Spielberg's directing and DiCaprio's talent is a real treat. The two of you should work more together.
2. INCEPTION (2010)
Christopher Nolan presents DiCaprio's talents at the highest point of him. Seen at times as a high-necked thief, while at other times he looks like a broken father, desperate to get back into his family, it's a performance that doesn't get enough credit.
1. THE WOLF OF WALL STREET
In the best collaboration between DiCaprio and Scorsese to date, DiCaprio seems to savor every moment playing the famous stockbroker Jordan Belfort, using words from the real man's memoirs. Tracing back to Ray Liotta as Henry Hill in "Goodfellas," Scorsese manages DiCaprio to combine comedy and madness to deliver a performance that will be remembered as one of his best of all time - and it's the best, at least for now. They do not believe?
