The daughter of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle was born: her name is Lilibet “Lili” Diana Mountbatten-Windsor
The little girl, whose name honors Queen Elizabeth and Lady Di, came to the world on Friday, June 4, in California, USA. Messages from the royal family
A spokesman for Prince Harry and Meghan confirmed to the AP agency today that the couple welcomed their daughter Lilibet “Lili” Diana Mountbatten-Windsor. The little girl was born at the Santa Barbara Hospital, in California, on Friday, June 4 at 11:40 a.m. and weighed 3.5 kilograms.
Her name, Lilibet, is a nod to her Majesty's nickname Queen Elizabeth II and her middle name is in honor of her grandmother and Harry's mother, Lady Di.
“She is more than we could have imagined, and we remain grateful for the love and prayers we have felt from all over the world. Thank you for her continued kindness and support during this very special moment for our family, ”the couple said in the statement, which, however, was not accompanied by photos of the newborn or the Sussexes.
The Queen, Prince Charles and his wife Camilla, as well as Prince William and his wife Kate Middleton "were informed and are delighted with the birth of the daughter of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex," a spokeswoman said at Buckingham Palace.
“Congratulations to Harry, Meghan and Archie on the arrival of baby Lilibet Diana. Wishing everyone the best at this time ”, expressed Prince Charles and his wife, Camila, through social networks. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge also sent a message to the couple through their Instagram account: "We are delighted with the happy news of the arrival of baby Lili."
The Dukes asked everyone who wants to send little Lili a gift to send support to organizations that work on behalf of women and girls. "For those who wish to send gifts, we ask you to support or get to know these organizations that work for women and girls: Girls Inc., Harvest Home, CAMFED or Myna Mahila Foundation," said the spokesperson for the couple.
Lili is eighth in line to the British throne. Her top seven spots remain unchanged: the first goes to her grandfather, the Prince of Wales; then her uncle, the Duke of Cambridge; her three cousins, George, Charlotte and Louis; then her father Harry hers; and finally her brother Archie Mountbatten-Windsor.
The new member of the royal family is the eleventh great-granddaughter of the Queen, and the first of the great-grandchildren of the monarch and the Duke of Edinburgh to be born since Philip's death in April.
The smallest of the Sussexes will not need the permission of the monarch to marry. For hundreds of years, the Royal Marriage Law of 1772 obliged the descendants of George II to request the consent of the sovereign before the wedding, otherwise their marriages were considered invalid. But this law was repealed in 2013, when consent was restricted to only the first six people in the line of succession.
As Lili is the eighth of that path, she for the moment she will not have to ask for the approval of the monarch to marry. However, she might have to do so in the future, when Prince William becomes king, and if there are no more additions of her ahead of her in the line of succession.
The birth comes after Harry and Meghan's explosive television interview with Oprah Winfrey last March, when the couple exposed painful arguments about their first child's skin color, the loss of royal protection, and the intense pressures on her. led to contemplate suicide.
Harry and American actress Meghan Markle were married at Windsor Castle in May 2018. Their son Archie was born a year later. In early 2020, the dukes announced that they were leaving their royal duties and moving to North America, citing what they described as unbearable meddling and racist attitudes from the British media. Since then, they have been living in Montecito, California.
As part of the new chapter away from Buckingham, the couple signed a millionaire contract with Netflix last September. The first project announced for Archewell Productions will be “Heart of Invictus,” a documentary series centered on the Invictus Games, an international sporting event for war veterans, founded by Harry.
Additionally, Harry landed an executive job at BetterUp, a San Francisco-based mental health counseling company. The Dukes also have an agreement with Spotify to produce podcasts and Meghan will release her children's book “The Bench” on June 8.
The grandson of Elizabeth II said in the interview he gave Oprah in March with his wife that his family had cut off financial aid after his resignation and that he had had to use the millions that Lady Di left him in order to start a new life far from London.
Little Lili arrives after her mother revealed she suffered a miscarriage in July 2020, giving a personal account of the traumatic experience in hopes of helping others.
