The reason Khloé Kardashian and Tristan Thompson reconsider having a second child
Khloe Kardashian and Tristan Thompson had an eye-opening conversation with a surrogacy therapist.
This was revealed in Keeping Up With the Kardashians.
While the reunion did not go as expected for True Thompson's parents, it was a necessary step on the road to finding a surrogate mother.
"Before we can proceed with hiring a surrogate, Tristan and I have to be evaluated," she explained in a confessional. "So today, we have a call from Zoom with a surrogate therapist. He will ask a few questions just to see if we fully understand what hiring a surrogate entails."
The call started off pretty well, with Khloé talking about her being the one who suggested surrogacy after learning that she would be a high-risk carrier. "I have been instructed to go the surrogacy route," Khloé informed the therapist. "And Tristan, thankfully, was on board and felt comfortable. I think more because he saw my sister go through it."
However, the duo's excitement certainly waned when the therapist posed a difficult scenario.
"These questions may be uncomfortable for you, but they are important," said the therapist before asking, "What are your beliefs about fetal reduction or termination of pregnancy due to multiple pregnancies? Let's say the embryo divided and the surrogate mother was suddenly pregnant with twins. "
Although Khloe and Tristan said they would be fine if this happened, the specialist stressed that they are not the only ones to consider in this scenario. "What if her surrogate disagreed with that?" he asked the couple.
"But don't they have to agree to our wishes?" a surprised Khloe replied.
As the therapist explained, while it may be her baby, it is still the body of the surrogate mother. She added: "Then, she could terminate the pregnancy with any unintended outcome."
This left Khloé and Tristan completely stunned as they "didn't know" that. To the KUWTK camera, the Good American mogul admitted: "I'm definitely freaking out, I think, as the questions go by ... I know it's my baby in her body, but I didn't really put two and two together. That means that she is in control of whether she wants to end up with the twin. "
Fortunately, Khloe had a reassuring phone call with her surrogate agent. "She said that she can't force someone to do with her body," Khloé told Tristan. "But, she said she ... things are in writing about what my wishes are and you ask them that first and they agree with two witnesses."
While this was a positive update for Khloe, she was still stressed over the situation. "I can't think too much ahead because this is where I am for phase two," Khloé told Tristan later in the episode. "I think this is the right choice for us, but I won't be rushed into it. I won't force it."
