Body language experts have analyzed the position Prince Harry was photographed in during his engagement announcement to the press.
When Prince Harry, real name Henry of Wales, and American actress Meghan Markle announced their engagement, the eyes of Internet users and viewers were caught in their smiles. But some have noticed a detail about a hand, and not the one adorned with a diamond ring. It is Prince Harry's right hand, half hidden under his jacket, at stomach level, making it look like Napoleon.
Why did he take this position? What does this unusual pose mean? Because it wouldn't be the first time the young man has had this reflex: last year, he was photographed with his hand placed in the same way during a meeting with the American First Lady, Melania Trump. The British site Good Housekeeping therefore asked Traci Brown, an expert in body language, to decipher this gesture.
An unconscious gesture of protection
"He covers the area of the plexus, vital organs, and protects himself, which indicates that he is not very comfortable in this situation," she explains. Besides, "who would be comfortable with all these photographers and people analyzing you?" Asks the expert. This position would therefore be a way of finding comfort when the prince feels embarrassed.
Other experts have confirmed this opinion: "Prince Harry's arm, placed on his abdomen, serves as a barrier to separate or move away from something that makes him uncomfortable," insists Blanca Cobb, another body language specialist. And since this gesture is repeated often, chances are the perpetrator will not even notice it. Even the royal family of England can have subconscious reflexes.
