Why Queen Elizabeth Will Always Protect and Support Prince Harry
Meghan Markle's recent interview with Prince Harry sparked speculation about Harry's relationship with his family. But for the queen, Harry will always be her beloved grandson.
Oprah Winfrey's controversial interview with the Dukes of Sussex, Harry and Meghan, caused a global stir. Royal experts pointed out that Harry's relationship with Charles and William would never be the same again.
However, there is one member of the royal family about whom Harry and Meghan did not utter a criticism. It is about Queen Elizabeth II, Harry's grandmother.
GREAT RELATIONSHIP
In their hour-and-a-half televised interview, Meghan and Harry noted that they continue to have a great relationship with the queen. They also revealed strong experiences in the monarchy, such as racist comments about their future son's skin tone.
These accusations caused much controversy and speculation about who would have made these comments. After the interview, Harry clarified that neither the Queen nor Prince Philip were involved.
Through the years, the queen has always shown a sweeter and more understanding side to Harry than to other royals. According to royal biographer Andrew Morton, the queen views Harry's role as similar to her sister Margaret.
In his new book, 'Elizabeth & Margaret: The Intimate World of the Windsor Sisters', Morton explored Margaret and Elizabeth's relationship in depth. He considers that Margaret always felt that she lived in the shadow of her older sister.
As the younger brother of the future heir to the crown, Harry probably would have felt the same way from his childhood. And Elizabeth fully understands the weight of being the "spare" heir.
Therefore, the monarch has always felt a lot of empathy for her grandson, and she understands the freedom she needs to rebel a little from the royal rigidity. That lost-soul rebellion was a prominent feature of Margaret.
This parallel is perhaps what has led the queen to protect and support Harry in everything he sets out to do. She would seek to prevent the young prince from falling victim to the same system that so oppressed his younger sister.
EMPATHY AND UNDERSTANDING
When Harry and Meghan announced their plans to leave their official roles in the royal family behind, the queen did everything possible to help her grandson in this new phase. She also keeps the doors open, in case she wants to go back.
While Elizabeth was central to the final decision (as she rejected the notion that they remained "partially" in the royal family), she has shown empathy and understanding throughout the process.
At the moment, William continues to harbor resentments for the statements of his brother. But the queen has gone out of her way to be open and receptive to Harry's complaints.
Elizabeth began to protect Harry in a special way shortly after the death of his mother, Princess Diana. It is a bond that cannot be broken so easily.
However, Harry and Meghan seem happy to have abandoned royalty. Everything indicates that the change of air has done them wonderfully.
