Salma Valgarma
Her full name is Salma Valgarma Hayek Jiménez and she was born in Coatzacoalcos, Mexico on September 2, 1966 (she just turned 50 years old). Her father was a businessman in an oil company and her mother, an opera singer. Her grandmother was "like a witch," a healer, and a naturist "beautician." In fact, all her tricks to take care of her hair and her skin were taught by her, so she ended up taking out a natural cosmetics line, Nuance, inspired by her.
Almost gymnast
Her dream was to dedicate herself to politics, but before she wanted to be a gymnast. She was shortlisted for the Olympic team (in this photo that she uploaded to her Instagram shows that she had aptitudes), but she was 8 years old and her father wanted her to have a normal childhood. Jokingly, she accuses him of being the cause that she now hates sports.
The beginning
She began to act in soap operas in which she, she assumes, was not taken for her talent (here we see her in a promo for the telenovela Teresa, in 1989). And that her physique was not always so stunning: at school she had to pray to God sometime to "breastfeed" her. "It is clear that she heard me," she has said.
When she arrived in the United States, it was difficult for her to find a place for being Latina: she called the representatives herself, showed them videos of how well she cried ... They even told her that she would not go far because her accent was reminiscent of that of a maid. She was only offered this role and that of a prostitute.
Between snakes
We met her in Desperado with Antonio Banderas, still a great friend of hers (like Penelope). But her most epic scene is her dancing with a snake in From Dusk Till Dawn. Although she is panicky, when Tarantino told her that Madonna also aspired to the position (her lie) he forgot all her fears.
Former partners
She dated Edward Norton (very discreetly) for four years (1999-2003), and also Josh Lucas (Sweet Home Alabama) for one year.
His great love
But the definitive one has been the French businessman François-Henri Pinault, one of the richest men in the world (president of PPR, owner of Yves Saint Laurent, Gucci or Balenciaga), who is the father of her daughter Valentina hers. They have been together since 2006.
Solidarity
She says that she learned from her parents hers "her love for humanity", the desire to help and to do justice. Along with Gucci and Beyoncé, she is the co-founder of Chime for Change, a campaign for education, health and justice for women around the world. She wants to "make the world a better place" for them.
Against Trump

Your passions
He is passionate about animals. Once, Antonio Banderas gave him two monkeys for her birthday. She has a farm on her ranch (and a vegetable garden, which she loves to take care of with her daughter) with alpacas, horses, dogs, cats ...; all rescued and normally, with some physical defect.
But her great hobby is soccer. She is such a fan that she says "it's one of the few things that can make me cry".
Producer
She has been a producer "when she had something to say": in Frida (with which she was nominated for an Oscar for Best Actress), in the series Ugly Betty and, recently, in The Prophet, an animated version of the tales of the Lebanese poet Kahlil Gibran (never released here), a very difficult adventure that he says cost him "three years of insomnia and an ulcer."
