Elon Musk's net worth grows to $ 167.3 billion
Tesla chief executive officer (CEO) Elon Musk hit a new high on Saturday after a jump in the company's stock price raised his net worth by nearly $ 9 billion to $ 167.3 billion, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index.
Tesla shares have jumped 731% this year, to close at a record high of $ 695 on Saturday. Tesla is very likely to debut in the S&P 500 Index, according to the Bloomberg report.
The 49-year-old business mogul added $ 139.7 billion in 2020, an amount that exceeds the total net worth of everyone else on Earth except Amazon founder Jeff Bezos. Bezos, for now, leads the wealth index with $ 187.3 billion.
Musk is the most prominent of a series of electric vehicle entrepreneurs, who have seen their finances increase this year, which has attracted a large number of new entrants. At least 15 electric vehicle companies have either gone public or announced their IPO in 2020.
On December 9, Musk officially announced his threat to permanently leave California for Texas, as he had done after an altercation with local officials in that country over his business shutdown during the pandemic.
