Joe Jackson, Michael Jackson's father, dies

Thanks to him, the Jackson Five signed with the legendary record company Motown and in 1970 they placed their first three singles in the first position of Billboard magazine.

Joe Jackson, father, promoter, patriarch as well as the man who launched the career of the king of pop, Michael Jackson, died on Wednesday suffering from pancreatic cancer. His expected death was confirmed among other means by the TMZ portal. He was 89 years old. Born in 1928 and married in 1949 to Katherine Jackson, he had 11 children. It was they who made him famous. The patriarch of this large family realized that the voices of his children were his ticket out of the poverty in which they grew up in Gary, Indiana (USA).

He first shaped them in the 1960s as The Jackson Five, a group made up of Jackie, Jermaine, Marlon, Tito, and Michael Jackson. And then he would also promote Michael Jackson's solo career when he was still just a kid. Later Randy was part of the Jackson Five. And his daughters LaToya, Rebbie and Janet released albums under the watchful eye and strict discipline of his father.

Jermaine Jackson recently tweeted about the health of his father although he described that talking about his father dying was a word he preferred not to say. "The time he has left, my mother, his children and relatives want to spend it by his side," he added on the networks.

His words recalled the scandal that has always accompanied the members of this family. Thanks to Joe Jackson, the Jackson Five signed with the legendary record company Motown and in 1970 they placed their first three singles (I Want You Back, ABC and The Love You Save) at the top of the long-awaited list of hits from Billboard magazine. Joe Jackson was also the first to realize the unique worth of the forever king of pop, Michael Jackson.

But the artistic and family relationship was at least complicated if not directly abusive both physically and mentally. Young Jackson acknowledged that he would never have achieved the success he enjoyed had it not been for the discipline of his father. But in different interviews, the man with the glove also described the insults and beatings that he received during the abusive discipline to which both he and his brothers were subjected to give their best. By 1979, Michael Jackson had fired his father as a manager taking off in the meteoric career that led to hits like Off the Wall and especially Thriller.

Later he seemed to forgive him by celebrating "Joseph Jackson Day" in his honor at his then Neverland ranch. But after his death, caused by an accidental overdose in 2009 when he was only 50 years old, Michael Jackson once again made his family disagreements clear. Joe Jackson was out of his inheritance and his grandchildren Michael, Paris and Blanket, Michael's children were left in the custody of the singer's mother and the children's grandmother, Katherine, 88.

Despite this complicated past and his criticized methods during the education and promotion of his children, the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame awarded him in 2002 one of the greatest honors in the world of music when it named him as one of the best representatives of all time. “I am glad I was tough because look what I have achieved,” he declared in an interview in 2003. “I got children who are loved by everyone around the world. And they have known how to treat everyone, "he added.

Resident for years in Las Vegas (USA) where he died, in recent years his ailments were numerous. In 2015 he suffered a stroke while in Brazil and was hospitalized again after a car accident in Las Vegas in 2017. He also suffered from dementia, arrhythmia and had a heart attack. In legal terms, Katherine Jackson was Joe's only wife despite numerous divorce attempts due to the patriarch's well-known sexual escapades. In fact, her daughter Joh'Vonnie Jackson was the result of the 25-year relationship between Cheryl Terrell.
