Oprah Winfrey 'deserves awards' for Meghan and Harry interview say viewers

Fans were impressed by the legendary talk show

Viewers have praised Oprah Winfrey for a 'top job' as she pressed Meghan Markle and Prince Harry on life as royals.

The 67-year-old American chat show host won admiration as she interviewed the couple, who it was confirmed last month would not be returning as working members of the royal family.

Oprah, who has previously had Barack Obama, Whitney Houston and Sarah Ferguson the former wife of Prince Andrew on her couch, received a raft of praise as she chatted to the couple about their struggles with royal life and the faceless institution labelled 'The Firm.'

One viewer tweeted: "Oprah’s 'were you silenT or were you silencED' line deserves an award."

They added: "The hand gestures? Give her an Emmy. Where is her Tony? Throw in an Oscar! She deserves a Grammy!"

"Such amazing Journalism," said another.

Another viewer admired: "Oprah was so right for this."

And another marvelled: "Oprah is playing a blinder here. Keeping the pressure on but in a subtle manner. Top job."

The two-hour special Oprah with Meghan and Harry was aired on ITV on Monday night after it was screened on Sunday night on CBS in America.

The interview with the couple who have built a new life in America attracted 17.1 million viewers on CBS.

Pregnant Meghan, who spoke with Oprah first, didn't hold back during the interview, emotionally revealing that she had contemplated suicide while living as a royal and pregnant with their son Archie.

She also described racism, saying that, during her pregnancy, there had been conversations about the colour of her child's skin.

Meghan said after Oprah asked her about the rumours that she had manipulated 'Megxit' "can you imagine how little sense that makes? I left my career ... because I love him."

She was then joined by her husband as they revealed that their second child will be a girl.

And as Oprah turned to Harry to talk about why they had decided to step back from royal duties last year, he addressed being 'cut off' from the royal family in the first quarter of 2020.

"She is clearly pushing Harry harder than Meghan. The questions are much more pointed and she presses harder," remarked one viewer.

Harry spoke warmly to Oprah about his grandmother the Queen, saying they had enjoyed Zoom calls and had a 'really good relationship.'

After becoming estranged from his father Harry said Prince Charles is now taking his calls again.
