Why are Britney Spears' fans slamming Jamie Lynn Spears' new memoir?
Available to pre-order now, I Must Confess: Family, Fame, and Figuring it Out is set to be released in January 2022. Fans of Britney Spears have criticised the star's sibling for trying to "make money" off her older sister.
"I must confess, I still believe," a then 16-year-old Britney Spears sang as she released what Rolling Stone claims to be the "greatest debut single of all time" back in 1998, ...Baby One More Time.
Over two decades later, the Spears family is attempting to get some more milage out of the pop star's iconic lyrics, with the 39-year-old's sister Jamie Lynn Spears borrowing some for her the name of her forthcoming memoir.
Titled I Must Confess: Family, Fame, and Figuring it Out, American bookseller Barnes & Noble describes the intimate memoir from the 30-year-old mum-of-two as "her unfiltered story on her own terms" and writes that "Southern Roots will reveal the details behind Jamie Lynn’s highest and lowest moments."
Available to pre-order now $26.00, the tell-all book is scheduled to be released on on January 18, 2022 and promises to share "never-before-heard stories that are at times funny, inspiring, messy, and uncomfortable."
Based on the overview of the hardback autobiography, the Zoey 101 actress looks set to discuss her famous sibling in great detail, as well as her own experiences as a teenage mum.
"She shares never-before-heard stories that are at times funny, inspiring, messy, and uncomfortable. Like having her mom’s credit card declined at Limited Too when her sister was on the radio," Barnes & Noble writes.
"How it feels to have inspired 16 and Pregnant with her own life story. Why her daughter’s ATV accident caused her to reevaluate and redirect her life. And why her family is just like any other family," they continue, referring to the star's teenage pregnancy at the age of 16 in 2007.
Her memoir's description seems to hint that the country music singer's stories will open up about "the family business" and how she has been on a "a not-always-so-perfect journey."
"Just Jamie Lynn – wife, momma, sister, daughter, actress and musician doing the best she can to show up for herself and teaching her daughters to have the courage to love every part of themselves too," the promotional blurb concludes.
"Jamie Lynn, at her core, is down to Earth. She wants to use her experiences in the “the family business” to help young women everywhere see the unique power and strength that comes from believing in themselves, taking risks, learning from their relationships, and embracing a not-always-so-perfect journey."
Despite the book not being available until next year, the country music singer has already received a wave of bad reviews and feedback about her venture into writing.
"Ridiculous, pathetic, awful..." wrote on Britney fan in the review section on the Barnes & Noble site.
As if paying for your private flights and attempting to transfer millions of $ from her sister's Trust wasn't enough exploitation for her, now she has to publish a book (allegedly) using her money too."
Another criticised her for trying to "make money" off her older sister, writing: "JLS is a moocher and is desperate to make money off of Britney."
One critic suggested that Jamie Lynn could have referred to her own work rather than Britney's.
"If it is a memoir about Jamie Lynn, why not call it "Follow Me"? Or something referencing her career, not her sister's. Unbelievable."
I Must Confess: Family, Fame, and Figuring it Out currently has 94 reviews on the Barnes & Noble site, with all critics leaving a one star rating.
