Bill Gates confesses as the main responsible for his divorce
The millionaire and philanthropist showed his guilt during a conference at a summer camp in Idaho
Bill Gates has intoned the mea culpa. The tycoon and philanthropist, co-founder of Microsoft, has revealed that he feels responsible for ruining his marriage after 27 years married to Melinda French. This was announced during a private meeting at a summer camp for billionaires in Idaho (USA), promoted by the investment bank Allen & Company, and where the businessman showed his guilt before several people gathered there after a lecture he gave on climate change.
In a relaxed Q&A, CNBC host Becky Quick asked the Microsoft founder about possible causes of her divorce. "Bill Gates confessed that he was wrong. He basically meant that the divorce was his fault," revealed one of the witnesses to that conversation in The New York Post. And it is that everything indicates that Gates was about to collapse when talking about the separation of him with Melinda. "He seemed excited about it ... on the verge of tears," explained the witness about the moment of confession. Gates reportedly did not name an affair as a reason for his divorce.
The Wall Street Journal newspaper revealed that the philanthropist had to leave Microsoft in 2020 for having had an affair with a company employee in 2000. The Microsoft board launched an investigation with outside lawyers in 2019 after sending a letter by part of an engineer from the company in which she claimed that she had had an affair with Bill Gates for several years and in which she asked Melinda Gates to read the note. Before finalizing the investigation, the founder of the company resigned from his position on the board, although a Gates spokesman assured that his resignation had nothing to do with this adventure, which Bill Gates admits, but that it ended many years ago and of friendly way between the two.
Bill and Melinda Gates put an end to their marriage last May after 27 years together. Both were in charge of announcing the separation through a statement: "After thinking a lot and working on our relationship, we have made the decision to end our marriage." In the divorce petition filed by Melinda, documents to which People magazine had access, the mother of Bill Gates' three children made it clear that the marriage was "irretrievably broken", hence there were several media outlets that pointed to the alleged extramarital affairs of the millionaire as a cause of his divorce.
