Jennifer Lopez or JLo reportedly broke up with former baseball athlete Alex Rodriguez, better known as Arod. But they still have a bond because of a US$1.8 million engagement ring.

According to sources quoted by TMZ, the 51-year-old actress and singer still keeps the diamond-encrusted ring. As is commonly known, an engagement ring is legally a gift in contemplation of marriage. When a couple breaks up before making a change, in most states of the United States, the person who proposes can get the ring back.

This means, Arod can also ask for the engagement ring back from JLo. Currently the ring is still in JLo's possession but was not physically brought to the Dominican Republic, where she shot Shotgun Wedding. He deliberately did not bring the ring for security reasons on the set.

Although legally, Arod had reasons to get the ring back as the person who bought and proposed to her, the reality for her and J.Lo is a bit more complicated because of how expensive the jewelery they gave each other was.

TMZ sources say they exchanged large amounts of jewelery during their relationship. Lopez gave Rodriguez more watches for his collection. The two haven't discussed who gets the engagement ring yet, but that's not an issue between them as they seem to still get along, a source told TMZ.

In their statement, JLo and Arod emphasized their good wishes for each other in the future. So even though they broke up, they seem to be continuing to be friends.

The couple started dating in 2017 and got engaged in March 2019. In the space of four years, they have had many family moments. Each brings two children from their previous marriage.

"We've realized we're better friends as friends and hope to stay that way," Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez said in their statement. “We will continue to cooperate and support each other in our joint business and projects. We wish the best for each other and for each other's children. Out of respect for them, the only other comment we have to say is thank you to everyone who has sent their kind words and support.
