Melania Trump criticizes historian 'dishonorable' for criticism of rose garden renovations
Former first lady Melania Trump condemned NBC News presidential historian Michael Beschloss after he harshly criticized the White House rose garden renovations in a tweet Saturday, sharing a picture. Trump revealed his changes to the rose garden of the White House in August 2020, the first renovations to take place in the iconic area outside the presidential mansion in nearly 60 years. Many criticized its changes at the time and continue to do so.
"The gutting of the White House rose garden was completed a year ago this month, and this is the disheartening result: decades of American history gone," Beschloss tweeted on Saturday, sharing an image from above the garden.
On Saturday, Melania Trump's Office Twitter account retweeted the historian's post, tearing him apart over her criticism and arguing her photo was "misleading."
Melania Trump criticizes historian 'dishonorable' for criticism of rose garden renovations.@BeschlossDC has proven his ignorance by showing a picture of the Rose Garden in its infancy. The Rose Garden is graced with a healthy & colorful blossoming of roses. His misleading information is dishonorable & he should never be trusted as a professional historian. https://t.co/LU243SANF1 pic.twitter.com/PuVOSjxx5w

". @ BeschlossDC has shown ignorance of him by showing a picture of the rose garden in his childhood. The rose garden is adorned with a healthy and colorful rose bloom. Misleading information about him is dishonorable and should never be trusted as a professional historian, ”the former first lady's office wrote in the publication.
The tweet included a different photo showing rose bushes in full bloom.
Just before President Joe Biden took office in January, many critics of Trump's changes in the garden took to Twitter to urge then-incoming first lady Dr. Jill Biden to reverse her predecessor's renovations. Liz Tapanes, launched a petition on Change.org in April to urge the new first lady to undo Trump's changes. By early Saturday afternoon, that petition had garnered more than 81,000 signatures.
"Melania Trump had the cherry trees, a gift from Japan, as well as the rest of the foliage removed and replaced with a boring tribute to herself," the petition complained.
