Seven of the most remembered scandals of the MTV awards
This Sunday the ceremony of the 33rd edition of the MTV Video Music Awards is held at Madison Square Garden, New York, given by the US channel MTV and which recognize the best music videos of the year.
Since they began to be presented in 1984, several of the ceremonies of these awards have been surrounded by controversy.
Without going any further, in the 2013 edition a great controversy was unleashed by the performance of the former Disney girl Miley Cyrus with the singer Robin Thicke, which was loaded with sexual gestures.
In 2014, Cyrus - who this year will be the emcee - also attracted attention by bringing a homeless young man on stage to collect one of the awards she won.
BBC Mundo presents a list of seven of the most scandalous moments that have been experienced in recent years at the MTV network awards.
1. Miley Cyrus's "perreo", 2013
Moments after Miley Cyrus stepped on the stage of the 2013 MTV awards, social networks exploded with the comments of thousands of viewers who did not leave their astonishment at the provocative and, for some, unfortunate performance of the young American artist.
The singer offered a show in which she wore a defiant attitude and was loaded with sexual gestures.
She went on stage to perform her single "We Can't Stop" dressed in a tight corset that she took off to show off a plasticized skin-colored bikini and ended up dancing twerking (known in Spanish as perreo), rubbing her butt against the singer Robin Thicke to the rhythm of the song "Blurred Lines".
Although in the days after the performance some came to her defense, the unanimous opinion seemed to be that Cyrus, who was not yet 21 years old, went too far with her performance.
2. Lady Gaga's meat dress, 2010
American singer Lady Gaga dominated the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards, taking home eight awards, including Best Video of the Year for "Bad Romance."
But what attracted the most attention that night Lady Gaga was not the tears she shed when collecting the awards, but the dress made of raw meat that she wore.
The international organization for animal rights PETA raised the cry in the sky saying that it was intolerable that the meat of an animal that had been tortured adorned the body of the artist.
Lady Gaga assured that the controversial design was a way to claim that she is not a piece of meat.
"For me it means that if we do not firmly claim what we believe and do not fight for our rights, soon we will have the same rights as a piece of meat. And I am not a piece of meat," said the singer to justify herself.
3. Kanye West ruins Taylor Swift's award, 2009
In 2009 singer Taylor Swift could barely contain her excitement after she was awarded Best Video for a Female Performer at the MTV Video Music Awards for her song "You Belong With Me."
But the joy was short-lived as while he was thanking for the award, rapper Kanye West took the stage, took the microphone from him and claimed that the award should have gone to Beyoncé for her video for the song "Single Ladies" .
"Hey Taylor, I'm so happy for you, now I'm letting you finish, but Beyoncé has made one of the best videos of all time. One of the best videos of all time!" West said to Swift's astonishment. and Beyoncé herself, who was staring at what was happening.
4. Madonna's Kiss, Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera, 2003
There is no doubt that the American singer Madonna likes to provoke and that is how she demonstrated it again at the 2003 MTV awards.
It happened while she was singing on stage with Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera her song "Hollywood".
In the middle of the song, the queen of pop planted a kiss on Spears's mouth and then on Aguilera's, causing a great media stir.
Later it became known that those kisses were a "plan b", since initially it was planned that Madonna kiss Jennifer Lopez.
5. Fiona Apple's acceptance speech, 1997

6. The "passionate" kiss of Michael Jackson and Lisa Marie Presley, 1994
Many questioned the marriage between Michael Jackson and Elvis Presley's daughter, Lisa Marie.
Perhaps to silence those who assured that it was a union out of interest, at the 1994 MTV awards the couple took the stage and kissed passionately in front of the cameras, to the applause of the public.
"No one thought this was going to last," Jackson said before kissing Presley.
The couple did not reach two years of marriage.
7. The tremendous finale to the Nirvana performance, 1992
In 1992 Nirvana was on the cusp of success. That year the grunge band took the stage at the MTV awards to perform their song "Lithium".
Everything went well until at the end of the performance Krist Novoselic came up with the idea of throwing it under him.
The instrument ended up hitting him on the head and for an instant it seemed that Novoselic was going to lose consciousness.
Cobain, as was usual for him, paid no attention to his partner and also lost control, smashing his guitar against one of the amps.
