Angelina Jolie remembers her mother in an emotional letter: 'Her death changed me'
The actress has written a text in which she pays tribute to Marcheline, who died at 56 years of ovarian cancer
Marcheline Bertrand, the parent of Angelina Jolie, passed away in January 2007 at the age of 56 from ovarian cancer. The actress has spoken publicly about her with a text in which she recalled the difficult moments she went through after her death, when she was 31 years old and had already begun her relationship with Brad Pitt after filming Mr. and Mrs. Smith. "When I look back I see how much his gait changed me. It was not suddenly but many things took a turn within me," he assured in a letter published in the New York Times focused on the mother figure and revealing details about her that until now we had never met.
"Losing the love, hug and warmth of a mother is like being snatched from a protective blanket," explained the protagonist of Maleficent in honor of the Anglo-Saxon Mother's Day. "When my father had an affair it changed his life," she adds, recalling the separation of her parents in 1976, a year after Angelina's birth, in which Marcheline publicly cited Jon Voight's infidelity. It was not until two years later that the French-Canadian interpreter filed for divorce and in 1980 her marriage officially ended. "She set fire to her dream of a family, but she continued to enjoy being a mother. Her dreams of becoming an actress faded when she found herself, at 26, with two children and a former celebrity who overshadowed her," remembers in his emotional text.
"After her death I found a video of her interpretation in a short film, it was very good, everything was possible for her. But now, with my girls growing up and with ages that I remember from my childhood as a daughter, I rediscover my mother and his spirit, "adds Angelina, who has six children, three boys and three girls: Maddox, 18; Pax, 16; Zahara, 15; Shiloh, 13; and Knox and Vivienne, 11. "Now I know what it's like to be alone and hug those I love with my coat. I know the overwhelming sense of gratitude for being strong enough to keep them safe."
Angelina Jolie adopted her first three children alone and later Brad Pitt also became her adoptive father. She with the Ad Astra actor she had three other biological children and they married in 2014 in a marriage that lasted only two years and whose separation shocked the entire film industry. "When your children come into your life immediately and forever come first," explains the interpreter, whose break also meant the distancing of Maddox and some of her siblings with the protagonist of Once upon a time in ... Hollywood.

In February 2013, at the age of 37, the interpreter underwent a double mastectomy after learning that she had an inherited gene that could cause breast cancer with an 87% probability. Two years later, and after the death of her aunt who had the same genetic alteration, she then underwent the removal of her ovaries and fallopian tubes due to having a 50% risk of ovarian cancer, which meant menopause premature despite hormone replacement therapy.
"I had a double mastectomy and then I had my ovaries and fallopian tubes removed, which significantly reduced, though not completely eliminated, my risk of developing cancer. I am often asked how my medical decisions have affected me, and I just feel that I made decisions to improve my chances of being here to see my children grow up and meet my grandchildren. "
