When we see Rihanna we see a beautiful, successful, and talented woman. But it was not always like this for the beautiful singer, her childhood was full of difficulties and pain, abuse and drugs, disease and poverty. But at 16, an audition made Jay Z pay attention and focus on her talent. After almost 10 years, Rihanna has already won 10 Grammy Awards, she has 7 albums under her arm and has become one of the most talked about female artists and with 4 hits on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in a single year.
None of this came easy, Rihanna is a true example of self-improvement and success. Rihanna was born in Barbados in 1988 and grew up in a rather difficult family. Her father was an alcoholic and a crack addict, Rihanna confessed to Rolling Stone magazine that her father hit her mother as well as her. Her parents divorced and this alleviated some of the pressure and anguish that Rihanna had, but even though conditions at home improved, at school it was a totally different story as she was teased at school for having lighter skin than others.
Even though Rihanna was shy, she went on to win a beauty pageant at age 15 for singing "Hero" by Mariah Carey. She always loved to sing and she always knew that she wanted to be a pop star. At 16, Rihanna caught the attention of an American producer, Evan Rogers, during an audition organized by the producer. Before long, Rihanna would have left Barbados to move to Connecticut with Rogers and his wife. During her stay there, she recorded a demo that was sent to various record labels and came to the hands of Jay Z. After this, Rihanna released her first single: “Pon de Replay”, the song reached number 2 on the Billboard chart. Hot 100, and put Rihanna on the map.
Eight months later, Rihanna released "A Girl Like Me" and in June 2007, "Umbrella", which reached number 1 on the charts. Today Rihanna is 27 years old, and apparently, she's just getting started. She is already a fashion icon, actress, and philanthropist. She is the sign that when you want something or have a dream, you can achieve it.
