Harvey Weinstein denies Angelina Jolie's allegations of her alleged harassment and accuses her of wanting to promote her new book
Former producer Harvey Weinstein has denied that he harassed Angelina Jolie more than twenty years ago, while they were working on the movie 'Playing with the heart' (1998), according to exclusive statements offered this Saturday through his assistant, to TMZ.
Hours earlier, The Guardian published an interview with the actress in which she assures that the events happened when she was 21 years old, after which she warned other people to alert the girls that they did not have to stay alone with him.
In her statements to the medium, the actress assures that women often minimize this practice if they manage to flee in time. "If you leave the room, you think she tried, but she didn't, right? The truth is that the attempt and the experience of the attempt is harassment," she stresses Jolie.
She also revealed that when she was offered to appear in the movie 'The Aviator' she turned down the role, because she found out that Weinstein was also involved in the project. "I never associated or worked with him again. It was difficult for me when Brad [Pitt] did it," she added.
"False and misleading"
"It's very clear to me that this is to [get] more sales for Angie's book. There was never any harassment," he explained. "It is blatantly false and misleading advertising. You are Angelina Jolie, I am sure that all men and women in the world show interest in you. Is the whole world attacking you?" He added.
For their part, sources close to Pitt, Jolie's ex-husband, have explained that the actor never "associated" with Weinstein to carry out 'Inglourious Basterds' (2009), but was only part of a film that was distributed by the The Weinstein Company film studio.
Last July, Weinstein, 69, pleaded not guilty to charges of rape and sexual assault related to alleged attacks on five women between 2004 and 2013. He is currently serving a 23-year prison sentence that he has appealed, alleging that he is innocent and that all sexual activity was consensual.
