Is it true that Angelina Jolie lost her Oscar statuette that she won for “Girl, Interrupted”?

‘Those Who Wish Me Dead’ Star Angelina Jolie Lost Her 2000 Oscar

Somehow, popular actress Angelina Jolie misplaced her Oscar. The little awards aren’t as tiny as they look on the screen, either.

The Oscar awards are solid bronze and plated with 24-karat gold. They are 13.5 inches tall and weigh about 8.5 pounds. While it may seem like a difficult thing to lose, several stars have lost or had their Oscars stolen.

Jeff Bridges, Colin Firth, Whoopi Goldberg, Bing Crosby, and Matt Damon are just a few others that have opened up about now missing their prestigious reward.

Angelina Jolie Misplaced Her Oscar

Unfortunately for Angelina Jolie, she doesn’t have a backup Oscar to put on display. During her long career, she has only walked away with one award at the 2000 Academy Award ceremony.

She had won Best Supporting Actress for her role in the film “Girl, Interrupted.” According to Popculture, Jolie gave the statue to her mother, Marcheline Bertland, to hold onto. Her mother died after a tragic battle with cancer in 2007. Since then, Jolie hasn’t quite been able to spot the golden statue anywhere.

She responds to accusations that she lost it with, “I didn’t actually lose it, but nobody knows where it is at the moment.”

At least she has a great sense of humor about it.

“Girl, Interrupted” was a very successful 1999 psychological thriller directed by James Mangold. It starred Jolie, Winona Ryder, Whoopi Goldberg, Clea DuVall, Jared Leto, and Elisabeth Moss. The movie is actually based on the memoir written by Susanna Kaysen. She attempted suicide and subsequently spent 18 months at a psychiatric hospital.

She also won the Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actress and the Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role.

‘Those Who Wish Me Dead’ Movie

Angelina Jolie still has all the time to add to her Oscar collection and replace her stolen statue.

In fact, she is starring in “Those Who Wish Me Dead,” which is set to release on May 14. It will be available in theaters, to stream, and will also be available on HBO Max. The film is directed by Taylor Sheridan. He is known for his work on “Yellowstone,” “Sicario,” “Hell or High Water,” and “Wind River.” He has been nominated for several Academy Awards over the years but has not yet gotten one.

According to Vanity Fair, Angelina Jolie had to give up directing and instead just keep acting because she needed to be home. She has personal responsibilities that are the most important part of her life.

“I love directing, but I had a change in my family situation that’s not made it possible for me to direct for a few years. I needed to just do shorter jobs and be home more, so I kind of went back to doing a few acting jobs. That’s really the truth of it,” she said to Entertainment Weekly. She had directed movies like “Unbroken” and “First They Killed My Father” in the past.

Jolie is playing a firefighter in the upcoming neo-Western thriller. Her character, while helping a teenage murder witness escape from assassins, is also fleeing from an enveloping forest fire. She stars alongside Nicholaus Hoult and Finn Little.
