Leonardo DiCaprio's childhood photo causes controversy
A rare throwback snap of the Oscar-winning star has resurfaced online, but it’s Leo’s mother who has everyone talking!
In the adorable photo, posted by Facebook page History in Pictures last week, an angelic-looking baby Leonardo is hoisted up high by his parents George DiCaprio and Irmelin Indenbirken.
The image has been shared over 13,000 times since it was posted, but surprisingly, Leo isn’t the one drawing the most attention in the childhood snapshot. Instead, it’s his mother Irmeline’s unshaven armpits that seem to have captured the internet’s focus, with several commenters weighing in on the controversial topic.
“Mom is even more hairy than Dad!” wrote one commenter, while another described arm pit hair on woman as “sick”.
However, the majority of commenters jumped in to defend the picture and Irmelin, with many questioning why it was even a topic of conversation.
“Why does his mom have to shave? All women grow hair under their arms,” wrote another commenter.
“This was a hair different time. This was normal. And women STILL DON’T have to shave to appease you! She’s not gross, only your irrelevant opinion is.”
Of course, Irmelin isn’t the only woman to have caused controversy in this area – Hollywood A-lister Julia Roberts also hit headlines when she debuted her unshaven armpits at the premiere of Notting Hill in 1999, and more recently, Miley Cyrus showed off her underarm area at the amfAR gala in New York.
