Margot Robbie breaks down in emotional video about the Australian fires
She shared memories of her childhood
Margot Robbie broke down in tears on Instagram, whilst asking her followers to donate to help the Australian bush fires. The actress videoed herself becoming emotional as she flicked through old family albums of her childhood spent in Australia.
She showed her younger self making mud pies, riding motorbikes on the family farm and learning to drive.
“I’m sure you’re all aware of what is happening in Australia at the moment with the fires. I didn’t want to show you anymore of the devastation, I wanted to show you how beautiful our country is, because it is so beautiful,” she started to tear up.
Nearly 500 million animals have been killed in the fires, which show no sign of abating.
Since September, 23 people have been killed and 1,500 homes have been destroyed because of the crisis, according to the BBC.
As well as Robbie, many high-profile celebrities are calling for donations. Singer Pink and actress Nicole Kidman both personally donated $500,000 to the Australian rural firefighters.
Over the weekend, temperatures reached 40 degrees celsius which exacerbated the crisis and wind gust caused the flames to spread. The blaze serves as a reminder that climate change is a reality and needs to be helped before it's too late for our planet.
Robbie showed her concern for the environment: “Let’s give future generations the childhood I was so lucky to have.”
Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison has announced that 3,000 reserve troops will be deployed to help tackle the fires.
