Jennifer López once again conquered the internet thanks to a new version of the iconic green Versace dress for which Google Images was born, almost two decades later.

The 50-year-old American singer wore the daring design to a Grammy awards ceremony in 2000.

Former Google CEO Eric Schmidt later revealed that the constant search for photos of the dress inspired the creation of Google Images, the tech giant's image search tool.

This Friday, JLo presented the renewed model during the Versace S / S 2020 show, at Fashion Week in Milan, Italy.

The photos of López with the new version of the iconic garment - with a print and cut very similar to the original - were seen more than two million times on social networks.

"This just happened," she wrote on her Instagram account next to the video in which she appears parading.

Designer Donatella Versace, 64, posted a photo on the social network with the singer during a celebration after the show.

Vogue magazine said the latest models to appear at the show walked the runway to Lopez's 2001 song Love Don't Cost a Thing, in front of a Google Images montage on the photos of the original dress projected on the walls were seen.

As if it were the virtual assistant Alexa, a voice announced, "OK, Google. Now show me the real dress."

The pop star and Hollywood actress then paraded to applause from the audience.

An icon of fashion and technology

Google was founded in 1998, but Google Images wasn't created until July 2001.

"When Google launched, people were surprised that almost anything could be found with just a few words on the computer," Schmidt wrote in Project Syndicate in 2015.

"It was better than anything else (out there then), but not great by today's standards."

"So our founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin - like any successful inventor - kept creating. They started with images. After all, people wanted more than just text."

"That first became apparent after the 2000 Grammy Awards, when Jennifer Lopez wore a green dress that, well, got everyone's attention."

At the time it was the most popular search we had ever seen. "

"But we didn't have a sure way to give users exactly what they wanted: JLo wearing that dress."
