Just a few months after "The Matrix" was released, his girlfriend, fellow actress Jennifer Syme, prematurely gave birth to the baby they were both expecting. The girl, who they were going to call Ava, was stillborn.
The girl's death shattered the relationship between Reeves and Syme. The woman went into depression and the actor could not be happy, so they ended up separating. But in April 2001, at a time when both were trying to strengthen their relationship, Syme had an accident while she was returning from a party at the home of singer Marilyn Manson, a friend of the couple. She ran off the road and died instantly. According to police reports, the interpreter was taking prescription drugs for depression.
