Marilyn Manson: how many of you, when you hear the name, automatically combine it with a satanic dimension of music and the world of entertainment?

For those who are not aware of the character we are about to talk about, Brian Hugh Warner, aka Marilyn Manson, is an American singer-songwriter and actor born in the State of Ohio, precisely in Canton, on January 5, 1969. The name of ' art comes from the combination of a name and a surname, which during the sixties had a symbolic meaning. "MARILYN" is derived from the actress Marilyn Monroe, while "MANSON" is derived from the criminal Charles Manson.

The questionable behavior of him and the various controversies regarding the lyrics and videos of his songs, have led the singer's image to have an impact on the public and on the entire community. He has had a strange and eventful life: since childhood he has lived with the awareness of his grandfather's strange sexual perversions, after he found pornographic magazines, fake dicks, red light movies and women's underwear in the latter's cellar. The boy, although that place was a hellish place and of which he was afraid, continued to feel the power of attraction that that cellar exercised on him.

He attended his mother's school, an episcopal institution, in which there were very strict rules: even sweets were forbidden! The teachers tried to scare the students with the arrival of the Apocalypse and the Antichrist: so these stories became the source of the artist's disturbance. For this he tried in every way to get kicked out: he went from selling sweets, illegally, to producing pseudo-pornographic-satirical magazines. Despite all his efforts, however, he was not kicked out but managed to be transferred to a public school only after convincing his parents.

Several years later, in 1989, he formed the band Marilyn Manson & the Spooky Kids, with guitarist Scott Putesky. In the summer of 1993 he produced the album that allowed him to debut: it was time to introduce Portrait of an American Family to the world. He made his film debut in 1997 in David Lynch's Lost Roads, in which he played a pornographic actor. In 2005, he declared that he wanted to stop producing music to become a decisive part of the cinema, although then, fortunately for his fans of him, he changed his mind, continuing to produce music too.

Anyone who listens to Marilyn Manson's music, at first glance, will think that the artist is demon-possessed. The singer is accused of being the cause of violence and suicides by many young people, all because of his subliminal songs. But underneath those tattoos, underneath the make-up and hoarse voice, hides a person with clear ideals. In an interview, the singer states: "Satanism does not mean worshiping the devil, it means that man must be his own god on earth. You don't have to adore anyone or anything, except yourself ”.

Marilyn Manson has been the source of a lot of criticism, but one thing is certain: he is not the incarnation of the devil. Many have implied that his satanic attitudes were a marketing strategy, but the singer must be seen first of all as simply a man who, fed up with the barriers that society imposes on us to push us in the direction he wants, has stopped being what he wants. that others told him to be. For this reason, now he does not play a role: it is simply what he wants to be, without fear of being judged, as the only one who can judge him is himself.
