Lady Diana: Barry Mannakee, the alleged "greatest love" she has ever had

Unlike Princess Diana's well-documented affair with Major James Hewitt, questions remain about the nature of her relationship with Mannakee.

Lady Diana was forced to seek solace outside of her marriage because her husband did not give her the affection she needed. But she is not the only one, because both had committed adultery.

EXTRA-CONJUGAL RELATIONSHIPS

After their divorce was made official in 1992, Prince Charles and Diana both admitted to having extramarital affairs during their marriage, during interviews.

While Charles of England's long-standing relationship with Camilla was highly publicized, Princess Diana was also somewhat fickle. Among Lady Di's accomplices, there was Barry Mannakee, her bodyguard.

HIS ALSO BIG LOVE

Although “The Crown” did not touch on Charles' late wife's relationship with the former police dog handler, there was one passage in which Queen Elizabeth II and Princess Anne spoke of Lady's alleged liaisons. Diana with a security guard.

Barry Mannakee was appointed to be the bodyguard of the Princess of Hearts in 1985. It was then that the mother-of-two felt vulnerable.

Note that Diana and Mannakee knew each other long before he was appointed as her bodyguard. But they forged a deep bond during a fishing trip that went awry at Balmoral Castle.

As she watched her husband indulge in his favorite activity, a salmon hook dug into her eyelid. It was Mannakee, not her husband, who brought the princess home for medical treatment.

Barry Mannakee was married to Susan, a reflexologist, and had two children, both teenagers.

Sally Bedell Smith's biography, titled “Diana in Search of Herself”, deeply explores the private life of William and Harry's mother. The American author said that Mannakee "had a jovial personality" and "made Diana instantly at ease".

In private recordings made with Diana's vocal coach Peter Settelen, the latter opened up about her relationship with an anonymous bodyguard.

The princess said she was "deeply in love" with this man. Besides, she was ready to give up everything to go and live with what she called "the greatest love". An opinion that Sergeant Barry Mannakee shared with her.

However, the bodyguard had been removed from his post because he had gotten too close to the princess. It must be said that Diana's relationship with Mannakee has caused a lot of ink to flow. And one thing is certain, the duo were very close.

THE WHARFE FACTS VERSION

Ken Wharfe, Mannakee's successor as Diana's bodyguard, said Lady Di had not had an intimate relationship with the married man. He said Susan's husband was just a shoulder she could cry on.

"I think all of us men and women working with the princess were all potential shoulders to cry on. That was her style,"

he explained in the documentary “Diana: In Her Own Words”

During her lifetime, Diana always suspected that Mannakee was deliberately killed because of their relationship. Allegations that Wharfe disputed. The latter said that Mannakee died accidentally in a traffic accident.

THE PRINCE'S RELATIONSHIP WITH CAMILLA

Lady Diana is not the only woman Prince Charles has humiliated along with Camilla Parker-Bowles. Before the mother of his two children, William and Harry's father had a romantic relationship with Anna Wallace. Abandoned, her partner at the time defends herself against the rich prince.
