The Congress of the state of Nuevo León, in northern Mexico, wants the federal government to sanction the American singer Miley Cyrus after, at a concert, one of her dancers allegedly hit her on the butt with a Mexican flag.
"We approved an exhortation for the Ministry of the Interior to apply the law on the use of the flag, the shield and the national anthem so that it sanctions the singer, her team or the organization that brought her in for the improper use of the Mexican flag ", explained the deputy Francisco Treviño.
Mexican authorities are often very sensitive to disrespect for national symbols. In the past, Mexican singer Paulina Rubio received a fine from the Interior Ministry (Interior Ministry) for posing for a magazine wrapped in the Mexican flag.
The sanction established by law can range from a fine of 250 times the minimum wage (about $ 1,200) to an arrest of 36 hours, according to Treviño.
For its part, the state Congress has also requested that another concert scheduled in Monterrey for this Thursday be monitored, a city to which the artist - whose performances are characterized by scandalous attitudes - arrived last Tuesday, coinciding with the celebration of the day of the Independence.
