In the end Leonardo Dicaprio won his Oscar as best leading actor for the film The Revenant by director Alejandro González Iñarritu. After three nominations for Best Actor and one for Supporting Actor, the American actor surpassed Bryan Cranston for Trumbo, Matt Damon for The Martian, Michael Fassbender for Steve Jobs and Eddie Redmayne for The Danish Girl.


Active in civil and ecological commitment, DiCaprio after taking the stage of the 88th Academy Awards at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles, thanked not only the director of the film that allowed him to win this Oscar, but also his teacher Martin Scorsese: «The Revenant is a film about the relationship between man and nature. 2015 was the hottest year in history, we had to move with all the production to the South Pole to find some snow. Climate change is becoming worrisome and threatening for our species. We must all work together and stop procrastinating. Still: “We must support world leaders against pollution and against the greed of the people in power. Thank you for this fantastic award, but we do not take this planet for granted and I will not take tonight for granted.


An Italian statuette went to the great master. Ennio Morricone for the best soundtrack of the film the hateful eight. The Italian composer, who had already won a Lifetime Achievement Oscar in 2007, his voice broken with emotion thanked the Academy, Quentin Tarantino and his wife and life partner of 60 years.
