Selena Gomez Is Donating to a Hospital That Needs Equipment for Treating COVID-19 Patients

It's an especially meaningful donation, as Cedars Sinai is where she received her kidney transplant.

During this stressful, scary, and unusual time, there's no wrong way to be generous; whether you're able to give money, protective materials, or even just your patience, it's much needed. And there's no wrong recipient of your gifts, whether it's going directly to a medical facility helping COVID-19 patients, to the charities you've always prioritized, or simply to a friend who was laid off when so many businesses had to temporarily close. Selena Gomez has decided to aim her generosity at a specific hospital, not only because of the help its staff needs during this pandemic but because she can't thank them enough for what they did to help her.

On March 30, Gomez let her Twitter followers know that she would be making a donation of an undisclosed amount to Cedars Sinai, a nonprofit hospital in Los Angeles. Aptly, she announced it on National Doctors Day, when people around the country were sharing their appreciation for what medical professionals have been doing for those being tested for, diagnosed with, and treated for COVID-19 as well as the unrelated, ongoing health issues and emergencies people are still facing every day.

"So thankful for every single medical professional who is putting their health on the line to take care of others 🤍 I’m donating to @CedarsSinai as they are low on masks and ventilators. They've taken such good care of me so it’s my turn to show my gratitude," Gomez wrote. The tweet has received tens of thousands of likes since it was posted on Monday night.

In addition to Cedars Sinai being low on the equipment needed to deal with the coronavirus outbreak, Gomez suggested another meaningful reason for making her donation to that particular hospital: In 2017, the singer, actor, and founder of new beauty brand Rare underwent a kidney transplant there following her lupus diagnosis.

Although we may not all be able to donate the way Gomez can, seeing such a heartfelt display of gratitude and generosity can inspire giving of all kinds during this trying time.
