Some of Justin Bieber’s biggest scandals
The Biebs’ Craziest Scandals
Chalk it up to growing pains? Justin Bieber‘s transition from squeaky-clean teen phenom to a shirtless, controversy-courting young man has been anything but seamless. Here, Us Weekly chronicles the Biebs’ craziest scandals — from an insensitive visit to the Anne Frank House to a mysterious night with a Brazilian woman (complete with a snoozing Bieber video clip!).
Sipping Sizzurp?
In February 2013, the singer (who was 18 at the time), was snapped drinking an unknown substance out of a double cup. Meanwhile, a bottle of codeine cough syrup—colloquially known as "sizzurp" was spotted nearby. The controversy came one month after TMZ posted photos of the singer smoking what appeared to be marijuana with pals Lil Za and Lil Twist in a hotel room on Jan. 4.
Speeding and Spitting?
The singer was accused of speeding through his Calabasas, Calif. neighborhood by former NFL player Keyshawn Johnson, and threatening and spitting on his next-door neighbor in a separate accusation filed with authorities in March 2013. The charges were later dropped in October.
Anne Frank
The Biebs stopped by the Anne Frank House while in Amsterdam in April, and sure left his mark at the historic landmark. "Truly inspiring to be able to come here," he wrote in a guest book at the museum. "Anne was a great girl. Hopefully she would have been a belieber." Shortly after his visit, the singer was hit by a wave of angry messages on social media.
Bus Bust
Reports surfaced in April that Bieber's tour bus was searched and busted for marijuana and a stun gun while in Stockholm. "During the raid they found a small amount of undetermined drugs and a stun gun, which would require license in Sweden," a press officer of the Stockholm police department confirmed to Us Weekly. However, no one was charged because the bus was empty at the time of the search.
Beer Me, Bro
"Beers in the jungle," Bieber captioned in an Instagram shot in May. The "Boyfriend" singer, who was in South Africa for his Believe tour, seemed to be enjoying some down time on a safari trip.
Bieber and Bill
The pop star apologized to former President Bill Clinton back in July, after he was taped leaving a NYC nightclub with his entourage—first peeing into a mop bucket and later defacing a pic of Clinton while shouting "F--- Bill Clinton!"
Saliva Speculation
After Bieber was photographed spitting over a balcony—believed to be on an imaginary crowd below—in Toronto in July, his rep told Us Weekly exclusively, "Justin didn't spit on anyone. No fans were below the balcony. In fact, earlier in the day, Justin bought his fans hot chocolate and played them some of his new music. Justin loves his fans."
Anyone There?
After a fan threw a cell phone on stage (which Bieber had asked the audience in Newark, N.J. during an August concert not to do), the fed-up pop star grabbed it and shoved it down his pants.
Not on Biebs
A male patron at a Toronto nightclub charged at the "Boyfriend" singer when he stepped out of his VIP section in late August
Great Wall
The pop wunderkind got a major assist from his bodyguards to climb one of the world's greatest wonders during his visit to the Great Wall of China in late September. Unlike your average tourists who typically climb the wall, Bieber's bodyguards carried the pop star to one of the summits.
Scuffle in Seoul
The "Heartbreaker" singer was accused of assaulting a tour manager in a nightclub in South Korea in October 2013. DJ Michael Woods took to his Twitter and wrote, "When I told @justinbieber to f-ck off and put some clothes on, he took a cheap shot at my tour manager [Alex Madden] and fled behind a wall of security." Even famous EDM artist deadmau5 got involved and told the singer to "grow the f-ck up already."
Brothel Brouhaha
Selena Gomez's ex was spotted while allegedly exiting a brothel in Rio de Janeiro in early November 2013—a report the young, pop sensation vehemently denied on Twitter.
Sleeping Scandal
Already bogged down by controversy during the South American leg of his Believe tour, Bieber's biggest scandal in Brazil involved a mysterious woman who filmed him sleeping shirtless in a viral video. Tatiana Neves Barbosa later claimed in an interview with British tabloid The Sun that the "well endowed" star was allegedly "good in bed."
Bad Bottle
The "Bad Day" crooner was hit in the face by a water bottle thrown onstage by a fan in Sao Paulo, Brazil on Monday, Nov. 4, knocking the microphone out of Bieber's hands. The star then angrily stormed off stage mid-show, failing to return to the stage to complete his concert.
Graffiti Gaffe
The "Bad Day" crooner was charged in Brazil in November 2013 for vandalism after his highly-publicized graffiti session on the wall of the former Hotel Nacional in Rio de Janeiro. Defacing buildings is a crime in Brazil that could lead to a fine and up to one year in jail. A week before, the pop star painted a wall in Bogota, Colombia, and was escorted into a police car by officers.
Flag-Raising Controversy
The singer apologized after he unwittingly infuriated fans in Argentina by appearing to sweep their flag with his foot during a November 2013 concert. "I love Argentina and have had some of the best shows of my tour there," he wrote in a series of tweets after a video was posted online. "I'm sorry for my mistake."
DUI Arrest
After being caught drag racing in his yellow Lamborghini, Justin Bieber was arrested for DUI, resisting arrest and driving without a valid license in Miami Beach, Fla. on Jan. 23, 2014. Upon leaving jail later that day, the "Heartbreaker" singer sat up on the roof of his awaiting car and waved to his fans.
Bieber vs. Bloom
Bieber made headlines on July 30, 2014, after reports surfaced that he and Orlando Bloom had nearly come to blows at Cipriani in Ibiza, Spain. Sources told Us Weekly the confrontation started when the singer made a comment about Bloom's ex, model Miranda Kerr.
