JENNIFER ANISTON JOINED INSTAGRAM AND BROKE THE INTERNET
Her photo of the Friends castmates reunited has sent the rumour mill into overdrive
Jennifer Aniston has finally got Instagram and no one can cope, not event Instagram.
Jen uploaded just one pic, of herself with former Friends castmates, reunited.
“And now we’re Instagram FRIENDS too. HI INSTAGRAM ” she captioned it.
To date the picture has 1.4 million likes and Jen has quickly racked up 190k followers.
So popular was the post when she first made it, Instagram actually crashed, with some users attempting to follow Jen being shown a page that read, “Sorry, this page isn’t available.”
Her page accumulated more than 116k followers in under an hour, with some of the more famous including ex-husband Justin Theroux, Reese Witherspoon, Chelsea Handler and Olivia Wilde.
“YASSSS!!! Welcome to Insta Jen!!! ,” wrote Witherspoon.
“The internet feels Friendlier already! ,” wrote US fashion guru Derek Blasberg.
“Woot-Woot! #first,” wrote Theroux. Friendly indeed.
Jen’s post has got the internet buzzing with the possibility of a Friends reunion. In January, Courtney Cox joined Instagram and shared a snap of her with Ellen DeGeneres and Lisa Kudrow from the Central Perk couch and has posted a fair amount of Friends content since, and in June, Jennifer said on Ellen that she wouldn’t be opposed to the idea. Friends is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year and Ralph Lauren has even released a collection in the series’ honour.
It will be interesting to see how prolific Jen is on the social media network following her Instagram debut. Speaking at Variety’s Women of Power luncheon last Friday, she spoke about the importance of using power to do good, and learning of her own growing impact when shooting Friends.
“I started meeting all these people who expressed how much the show meant to them, it lifted their spirits when they went through a bad breakup or got them through an illness and I began to change the way I thought about my own voice and what it meant to have a platform to use it,” said Jen.
She has been supporting St Jude Children’s Research Hospital for the past 25 years.
Jen’s next acting role is in The Morning Show, a new series for Apple TV with Reese Witherspoon and Steve Carell, launching November 1.
Jen plays a morning news anchor locked in a rivalry with Witherspoon’s character. Carell’s character is fired amidst accusations of sexual misconduct in a storyline that was created in the wake of the #metoo claims rocking the media landscape.
Jen told The Telegraph she found it easy to identify with her character. “One of the challenges for [my] character is the trauma and turmoil going on in her private life, and the toll that that takes on her emotionally, physically, mentally, versus the character that she is when she has to get up, put on a face and smile to America,” she says. “I can relate to that. Of course there are times when you don’t want anyone to see you, or you don’t want to be photographed or even go out of the house.”
