Jennifer Aniston's Top Tips for Renewing Skin Health

It's hard to believe that a quarter of a century has passed since Jennifer Aniston became a household name thanks to NBC's "Friends." The main reason is because the actress barely shows her age (she turned 50 last February).

With her return to the small screen this month on the Apple TV + series “The Morning Show,” Aniston knew all eyes would be on her, who plays a news anchor, along with the co-star. from her, Reese Witherspoon.

During a skin health summit last month, Aniston credited hers with good genes for her flawless complexion, but the Aveeno brand ambassador acknowledged that luck alone is not enough. "I inherited good skin from my father," said the actress in a private room at the 1 Hotel in West Hollywood. “But something I should say to my younger self is, 'Don't take that for granted,' because you have to keep it. That quality has a useful life ”.

Aniston spoke to The Times about her routines to take care of her skin; how gut health, exercise, and stress affect skin health; and which are her favorite cosmetologists.

1. Balance her microbiome with products that contain probiotics, which are supposed to improve the protection of the epidermis and keep the skin soft and healthy. All of this is fascinating to me. Our NAD [short for nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide] begins to decline as we age, which is basically the mitochondria in our cells. When that starts to wane, our bodies do too. Genes turn off, and then you get old. That is why I am obsessed with skin health. It is something I have learned in recent years. I'm interested in science and health in general. If I see that the elderly in my family are not taking care of themselves, I am frustrated that they could be here longer, if they only knew. They were from a generation that did not understand nutrition, exercise and mental health, and all that allows you to extend your life. They are all over 90 years old; Greeks live long, but you have to live well, not just survive.

2. Treat yourself - facials, many facials! I love facials and also changing specialists. It's like exercise: it's good to combine them. I have a list of cosmetologists who are my favorites, including Georgia Louise [in New York], Melanie Simon [in Montecito, California], Lena [Bratschi, from Carasoin Spa in West Hollywood], and Joanna Czech, who is coming [to town] from time to time [from Dallas and New York]. They are fabulous.

3. Find a daily moisturizer that is right for you [naturally, Aniston recommends Aveeno's daily moisturizing lotion, which includes prebiotic oatmeal, and claims that he has been using it since his teens]. It's the one my mother bought, and it's the one I use on my body. I am a creature of habit. When I started living alone, it was a staple in my bathroom. I just love it. I have one in my car; it's in all my bathrooms. Apply as soon as you get out of the shower, before you get too dry. My mother was very concerned about her skin, but she was also from the generation where internal health was not addressed; everything happened externally. However, one of the positives that came out of that was: "Hydrate your skin."

4. Be adventurous with skincare trends, but be clear about your limits. Are there any trends that you wouldn't try? Well, I wouldn't put leeches on my face because I find it scary. I don't know how it can be great for some; I don't know and I don't care. What else would I ever do? I'm not a fan of retinol. It takes the strength out of your skin; I stay away from him.

5. Healthy living should not be a 'miracle diet'; It is a lifestyle. I believe that when you eat sugar and bad foods, your face, body, and energy levels show the results. Eating healthy is a way of life. I don't feel deprived of that because I also give myself 100% likes. It's like a 70/30 on everything. The body listens to us: it is like talking to a plant. It will really feel good if we treat it properly.

6. Avocado, ginger and asparagus: yes to antioxidants! I love avocado. Before she thought: 'No! It makes you fat! ' But it is one of the best foods that can be given to the body. You can even eat a whole avocado for lunch. Pour in a little olive oil, and a little salt and pepper. It is so delicious and healthy for us! Ginger is excellent and has antioxidants; asparagus too, even though it makes pee smell funny, which I really don't understand. Can someone explain that to me well one day? I would love to know why it happens. The same person could inform me why lemons have seeds, but limes do not. These are life questions that I want to answer.

7. Find an exercise routine that is motivating. I started boxing but broke my wrist a couple of years ago, so I had to get creative. With [my trainer], Leyon [Azubuike], we started doing other things like strength training, arm toning with resistance bands, jumping rope, and planks. You have to find something that shakes the body a bit. I see people going to the gym, moving non-stop on the treadmill and probably thinking, “Oh, I just completed an hour. Ready!". That doesn't work. Stressing the body is what allows NAD to reinvent itself in our bodies.

8. Enjoy a daily digital detox to combat stress. Don't touch your phone for an entire hour, if possible. Make a big difference. We don't really need it, unless it's for work. But if you have nothing pressing, not looking at it for an hour will not cause any harm.

9. Meditate every morning, and at night if possible. I do it for 20 minutes in the morning and another 20 at night. I usually don't have the evenings available to meditate, which I would like, but I do before I go to bed, and it has really helped me sleep. If I can't practice twice a day, I always meditate in the morning. When I quit practice, because “Oh, am I too busy, or do I have to get up at 5 a.m. and I don't have time ”, I notice the difference. It is very important for me to get back into that routine.
