Tom Cruise breaks silence on scandal on set of "Mission Impossible 7"
Tom Cruise explains what was going through his mind when he scolded the Mission Impossible staff and that the public got to know it thanks to an audio leaked where he can be heard shouting at his workers
Last December, Tom Cruise made headlines around the world after an audio leaked in which he is heard yelling scolding the staff of the film Mission Impossible 7 for not following sanitary measures.
After the scolding, five members of the team resigned assuring that it was "impossible" to work with the actor. In response, Cruise had to “fast-forward” the end-of-year vacation because the vibe on set had gotten pretty heavy.
Five months after the controversy, the actor broke the silence and gave his version of events in an interview for Empire magazine. "I said what I said. There was a lot at stake at the time ... But it wasn't my entire team that was there. I made the team leave the set, and it was just specific people [who I scolded]."
Tom Cruise also explained that after the incident, filming “never closed again… And here we are, we continue filming. I also have Zoom parties and children's parties, you know?
In the same interview, Tom implied that when the pandemic began and the production of Mission Impossible 7 had already started, he was afraid that he would not be able to finish the film.
“(He Was) responsible for thousands, if not tens of thousands of jobs. All my friends in the industry, the people who are in distribution and my team said to me 'What are we going to do? I could lose my house! ' So I told the studio and the industry in general, ‘We will be back. Let's get everyone back to work. We are going to start shooting in the summer and we are going to find out how to do it safely ”.
When they resumed activities in the middle of the pandemic, the actor was not willing to have infections on set.
“(We worked) seven days a week, 24 hours a day; We dealt with the emotions of the whole team and helped them manage them. There was social distancing, face masks; we designed little bubbles of team members, like one makeup artist for every two actors, plus department heads who isolated themselves in their own hotel rooms, drove to the set, shot the scene, and then returned to the hotel until needed again. We made groups of five people ready to quarantine them if any of them contracted the virus. "
Tom Cruise acknowledged that there came a time when he thought that the movie could not be filmed, so achieving it was very emotional and important for the entire team.
"All those emotions ran through my mind. And for the whole team to know that we had started shooting a movie was a great relief ... It was very emotional, let me tell you."
