Why is Miley Cyrus the 'voice' of our generation?
She has accompanied us for so many years that she has become a reflection of what we can be or where we can go. When in life you feel that she touches a change, the worst that can happen to you is not to throw yourself. And that's what Miley has taught us.
Talking about Miley Cyrus (1992) is a task that could take us in many ways. The singer, actress and activist has 'accompanied' us for so long that the debates that she generates among those of us from her generation have more than one hand.
Her beginnings as an actress, her music, her personality, her relationships, her activism with the LGBTIQ + collective, her awareness of the environment, her passion for animals ... are just some of the examples with which we could frame a life full of ups and downs, of triumphs and very remarkable moments. The latter, we can easily identify them because she has been in the spotlight since she was born but, above all, because when she started starring in what was one of the reference series for 'millennials' in 2006, she hooked us .
THE STAGE OF 'HANNAH MONTANA'
Miley was 13 years old when we met her on Disney Channel, and she immediately became a reference for the chain and for the children and adolescents who saw 'Hannah Montana', the series in which she was the protagonist until 2011.
Miley's character had 'the best of both worlds', that of anonymity and 'celebrity', and in each chapter she gave us lessons in loyalty, family awareness and self-improvement. Something that dazzled us and that the Disney universe took great advantage of to create a whole display of 'merchandising'. Miley (Hannah), we took her to the 'school' in backpack, case, sweatshirts and also in the 'mp3' helmets, because in the series super catchy songs were released and our 'fandom' vein was already well 'developed' (Hello, OperaciĆ³n Triunfo and UPA Dance).
'THE CLIMB'
In 2009, Miley released the song 'The Climb', which was number 1 on several lists for a whole summer and one of the songs from 'Hannah Montana, the movie', which would mean the definitive end of this stage.
Before Miley ended her contract with Disney, she began to move away from that innocent image as any adolescent in full effervescence would have done: uploading photos, videos and 'tweets' in contexts that had little to do with Disney, making a movie (' The Last Song ', in 2010), falling in love for the first time with his partner (intermittent) these years: Liam Hemsworth and releasing a great album that turned out very well in terms of declaration of intent:' Can't Be Tamed ' .
With this almost adult Miley, we identify ourselves for the first time on a different level: perhaps you coincided with her when it comes to falling in love for the first time and living it in parallel, as well as identifying with the occasional rebellious episode from her past. With the latter we mean everything that she wanted to convey with her first album as Miley Cyrus and the first 'scandals' that she began to star in (at parties and others).
THE GREAT INFLECTION POINT (2013)
Her 'vital awakening' coincided with her breakup with Liam Hemsworth. At the age of 21, her first love was ending, and the pain she felt made us remember or identify with that painful and unexpected first time that we have all experienced at some point.
Anger, sadness, acceptance and resilience. With those terms is how we could define the album in which she shaped this whole new stage, whose 'singles' reached historical records.
'We Can't Stop' and 'Wrecking Ball' stayed in the highest positions for a long time and, for example, the latter reached one billion views on YouTube. Not to mention the great change of 'look' at all levels that we saw in her.
She was another, and she felt freer than ever.
PANSEXUALITY AND FLUID GENDER
In those years, Miley spoke for the first time about her identity and her sexual orientation. She declared herself pansexual and, later, gender fluid, something that was still not talked about with the naturalness of today in the media.
Such was his liberation, that we met some of his female partners. And she, too, founded The Happy Hippie Foundation, a foundation to shelter homeless adolescents and rejected by their families due to their condition, identity or sexual orientation.
ACTIVISM AND POLITICS
With her liberation, from 2013 until now, Miley has spoken openly about the environment, progressivism, feminism, racism, animal protection and veganism, and has actively participated in actions and events in which she has wanted to get involved for a good cause.
Thus, Miley is an example of conscience in a context in which, as young people, it would be very good to inform ourselves and be part of the change to live in a better world. Has she inspired you in that way in any way?
YOUR LAST CHANGE AND RELEASE
Much has happened since that 2013 in which we met a new Miley, even a somewhat eclectic album ('Miley Cyrus & Her Dead Petz'), a wedding and a divorce with the love of her life we have lived. But we can say that, to this day, with all that learning behind him (from mistakes, too) and at 28 years old, the album he has just released is another of his great and most recognized achievements in the industry, and also his greater release.
'Plastic Hearts' is the result of his evolution as an artist and a work that reconciles him with the past (is that what you feel when you have listened to it?), With what life has put him ahead and also that leads him back into a new way, very 'rocker'.
Do you feel like this is Miley's best moment? I say yes. And that we still have a lot to learn from her, too.
