Jennifer Aniston gives a rare statement about her toxic relationship with her mother: ‘I’ll never be like her’
Actress Jennifer Aniston gave a rare testimonial about her toxic relationship with her mother, actress Nancy Dow (1936-2016). The star of the series ‘Friends’ was brief but emphatic when mentioning her mother in an interview recently given to the North American website The Hollywood Reporter.
Aniston spoke about Dow in dealing with mental health problems experienced by celebrities because of the pressure and excesses that result from fame. Asked how he turned 52 without ever having freaked out in public, she attributed it to his troubled relationship with his mother.
“I have a lot of positive people around me,” said the actress. “And I grew up seeing a person [Nancy Dow] living comfortably in the victim position and I never liked it. I knew this person was setting an example of something I never wanted to be and never will be.”
“It’s toxic, it destroys your bowels and your soul. And look, is it a side effect having to see your shit exposed to the world? Yes, it’s inconvenient, but it’s all relative”, Aniston concluded on the subject.
Nancy Dow died aged 79 in 2016 after two strokes. Model and actress, she has worked on TV series such as ‘The Beverly Hillbillies’ and ‘The Wild Wild West’. She and her daughter broke up in the early 1990s and only got back together, albeit at a distance, in the early 2000s.
Dow left Aniston and the other son out in his will. The international press reported that, later on, the young Eilish Melick ended up dividing the fortune left by her grandmother between her (US$100,000), her father ($65,000) and her brother (US$100,000). Aniston would have refused to accept any value.
Aniston has not invited her mother to either of her two weddings, to Brad Pitt and Justin Therou. In an interview in 2011, Aniston blamed her mother for her low self-esteem issues. Dow would also have quarreled with his other son in 2011, leaving his granddaughter as his last family bond.
