American tennis player Serena Williams will have to pay a fine of $ 17,000 for three episodes of code violation during the women's final of the US Open, which she lost to Japan's Naomi Osaka.
According to the referee, there were three code violations by Williams: first a warning for allegedly receiving directions from her coach, then a penalty for breaking her racket, and finally a penalty for verbal abuse.
The tournament's referee office has sided with Portuguese judge Carlos Ramos in this conflict, and has decided to impose a fine on the tennis player for each of the three episodes.
Williams will have to pay $ 10,000 for the "verbal abuse" against Ramos, $ 4,000 for the warning after receiving directions from her coach and another $ 3,000 for breaking her racket.
