After the world learned about the incredible transformation that the actor made to be part of the film starring Robert Pattinson, the Irishman spoke about his character

Five months after the filming of Tha Batman (Matt Reeves) ended, news began to emerge around the long-awaited DC film starring Robert Pattinson. One of the characters that attracted the most attention when the trailer was known was that of The Penguin, played by Colin Farrell. The Irish actor spoke about this challenge and also told a very particular detail, which surprised the fans of this story.

For many it is difficult to forget the work that Danny DeVito did as The Penguin in Batman Returns (by Tim Burton), although now they will have the opportunity to know another version. To put himself in the shoes of this particular character, Farrell transformed: in the images that transcended he is seen with several extra kilos and an unrecognizable face.

The actor himself was one of the first of this great production to break the silence and make mention of this long-awaited film that promises to be one of the favorites of 2022. “I'm only in the movie for five or six scenes, so I can't wait to see the movie because my presence won't ruin it, "joked the actor on the Happy Sad Confused podcast.

And then he added, “Really, it's a freebie for me. I'm going to feel a little uncomfortable for the damn nine minutes I have and then the rest. I can't wait to see how the director brought this world to life. "

The actor's words did not go unnoticed by the fans of this story, since during the months of filming, the press placed a lot of emphasis on his transformation so it was expected that his participation would last several minutes on screen or, at least, have more scenes.

About his transformation

Bruce Wayne (Pattinson) will once again be the vigilante of Gotham City and, on the other side, will appear one of his most powerful enemies, The Penguin. On the transformation he had to do for the character, Farrell revealed that he did not gain weight but that it was a suit created for him because gaining and losing kilos for artistic reasons had not been good for his health in other opportunities.

"Mike Marino is a genius," Farrell said of the makeup artist working on the film. “He is an absolute and true genius, and that word is not used much, but he is a genius of drawing, sculpture and form. He created this face for The Penguin. I mean he and Matt [the director] talked about what the physical build of the character would be like and I had been pretty big for The North Water and didn't want to go back to being fat naturally because I had some health issues as a result [of those changes in weight] and I was like, "Damn, this acting thing isn't that important [in relation to your health]!" I know the best actors who go up and down and, God bless you, I wish you good health. But, for me, I think The North Water was the last time I'm going to gain weight. So we decided on a fat suit, "he revealed.

Regarding Marino's work, he highlighted: “As I said, I have five, six or seven scenes and I wasn't quite ... I was here in the early stages looking at what I felt, what I could do, what I could contribute. I was a bit lost. And then when I saw what Mike did, the whole character made sense to me. I swear to God, I saw what he did, and I said 'ok' and I was very excited. All that to say that if anyone ever thinks that what I do in The Batman is a decent performance, I will gladly take 49% of the credits. "

About the shooting and the spirit of the film

After being forcibly spread by the coronavirus pandemic, filming for The Batman ended in London months ago. The recordings had begun in January 2020, but were interrupted two months later by the advance of Covid-19. Within days of their resumption - last September - they suffered a further delay after Pattinson tested positive on one of the control swabs.

“I've been watching the previous Batman movies with my kids, but this script is very original. It approaches those bases of the past but does not borrow anything from them, it is a return to the origin of the character's mythology, although written from a new point of view. Matt Reeves did a great job of keeping the story in some familiar way and at the same time creating something totally unique and new. It's very exciting to be a part of this, ”Farrell had said months ago about the spirit that the film will have.

Reeves' The Batman is full of iconic characters, in addition to The Penguin, Catwoman (Zoe Kravitz) and Riddler (Paul Dano) will appear, but apparently the villains will not be able to overshadow the batman's work. But to learn more about this new version of the iconic superhero, we will have to wait until March next year when it opens both in theaters and on HBO Max.
