Leonardo DiCaprio Explains That Awkward Lady Gaga Golden Globes Moment
That coveted Oscar may still elude Leonardo DiCaprio, but the actor is frequently a favorite to win at the Golden Globes. This Sunday was no exception, and riding high on his presumptive win, DiCaprio was in exuberant spirits all night. One of his least guarded moments came when Lady Gaga squeezed past him on her way to collect her award for best actress in a limited series. But DiCaprio wants to assure us it’s not as bad as his face would make it seem.
That incredible side-eye was probably the viral moment of the night, with many viewers assuming DiCaprio had something against the singer cum actress.
“Oh lord — that’s trending, huh?” the actor said when Entertainment Tonight showed the already infamous GIF to DiCaprio and his The Revenant director Alejandro González Iñárritu. “I just didn’t know what was passing me, that’s all!” he said by way of explaining his shocked expression.
The explanation isn’t all that thrilling, but DiCaprio knowing what “trending” even means is kind of fun. DiCaprio barely engages at all in social media and—the rare Ice Bucket Challenge video aside—is so Internet-culture shy he may even ask to be edited out of friend’s photos just to keep his digital footprint low.
But if DiCaprio is wiser to online culture than he would have us believe, that means he’s also aware of all of your awards-season DiCaprio memes. Now that’s become yet another one, hopefully he’s at least able to enjoy it alongside the rest of us.
