Miley Cyrus shrugs off wardrobe malfunctions as fans rush to defend her

Miley Cyrus's wardrobe malfunction didn't stop her from putting on a show at the time, and she looks like she's still not embarrassed after the fact. The 29-year-old pop star's blouse fell off during her NBC New Years Eve live special, Miley's New Years Eve Party, and she quickly bounced back by covering herself up and changing backstage. (Although her second outfit choice caused another malfunction.) The entire ordeal sparked a lot of conversation on entertainment media websites and on social media, with Cyrus acknowledging all of the talk on Saturday afternoon.

Much of the media coverage used the phrase "she suffered a wardrobe malfunction," a phrase that Nicole Phillip of The Hustle did not appreciate, given that Cyrus handled the situation in a professional manner. Moments after the viral moment, Phillip tweeted: "She did not 'suffer'. The girl didn't miss a beat or [slip] on… and STILL delivered. Cyrus loved Philip's version of the situation. The "We Can't Stop" and "The Climb" singer responded, noting that she "she loved every second" of the event, including the frenzy.

Cyrus also acknowledged the wardrobe issue during the show itself. As she continued her performance of “Party in the USA” (while wearing a blazer that she put on after her blouse fell off), she added on the line “Everyone is definitely looking at me now” and also said, “I'm still with the most clothing I've ever worn on stage. She also apparently referenced the moment at the end of the broadcast when she went through the entire theme of the show (which had also been plagued with artist cancellations and other last minute changes).

"Tonight's show was about being flexible, letting go and making the best of even the worst of circumstances," Cyrus said, as transcribed by PEOPLE. And that resilience shouldn't end here. Let's bring that into the New Year with us. We have all learned to expect the unexpected, and instead of seeing it as a problem, let's see it as an opportunity. I wish everyone here in Miami and everyone looking from home a happy and healthy 2022. Thank you for making this night possible. They were really everything I needed to have the best party.

Miley's New Years Eve party, who co-hosted Pete Davidson, is now airing on Peacock. There are also select clips from the event on YouTube, but NBC has notably not shared the performances that featured costume flaws there.
