Selena Gómez showed one of the ravages that lupus leaves on her body

My hands are very weak because I have lupus," Selena Gomez said in an episode of "Selena + Chef," a cooking show on the streaming service HBO Max in which she prepares recipes that expert chefs suggest.

With those words, the actress and singer revealed one of the symptoms that this disease causes in her body, in which the immune system itself attacks cells and tissues by mistake.

Specifically, Selena was following a recipe for Korean BBQ tacos from chef Roy Choi, who asked the artist to squeeze a lemon into an onion mixture.

Since she was unable to do so, she asked her maternal grandfather, David Cornett, for help, who stood in front of the cameras to squeeze the fruit from her. "This is why I have dad around," she said, smiling, Selena.

That someone with this condition cannot use their hands is explained by the fact that inflammation and pain in the muscles, tendons and joints are common in those who suffer from it, according to the Lupus Foundation of the United States.

In social networks, many commented on the event and sympathized with the singer.

"Selena Gomez not being able to squeeze a lemon because of lupus ruined my day," user @cap8extasis wrote on Twitter.

Selena and her lupus

In a 2015 interview with 'Billboard' magazine, Selena revealed that she had been diagnosed with lupus that same year.

The announcement was made after many believed that she had entered rehab for a drug problem. But the truth, she commented, is that she was receiving chemotherapy, a treatment that is only used in serious cases of this pathology, according to the medical portal 'News Medical'.

In 2017, she underwent a kidney transplant due to her condition. She told this procedure on September 14 of that year on her Instagram account, in a publication that has, so far, more than 10.5 million likes.

It must be remembered that lupus has no known cure, but there is treatment to stop serious damage that can affect various organs.
