The director of the film is angry.
Jennifer Lawrence looks like a former ballet dancer turned spy in "Red Sparrow," the latest film from director Francis Lawrence ("Hunger Games"), but there's a reason the filmmaker isn't happy with it. the n**des of the talented actress.
The film follows Dominika, a former ballet dancer who enters a school where she is taught to use manipulation and seduction to achieve anything. Once she learns to use her body as a subtle and sensual weapon, the Russian government assigns her a mission to extract information from a handsome American agent.
Sounds like a pretty s**xy plot, Jennifer Lawrence is going to dress up and act super sexy to get what she wants. And the amount of news that her nudity has generated only helps to strengthen the idea that it is a sensual spy movie, but no.
That was not the point of the film and if you believed it that way you were wrong.
Frances Lawrence said in an interview with Indie Wire that “Red Sparrow” “is not an erotic thriller. My approach was never one that was s**xy, ”she pointed out.
"Once again there is a kind of perception that if you are going to make a movie about someone who is trying to seduce by information then there will be a lot of pink rush and high heels, but it really isn't."
Although it sounds like a flirty and sexy film, the world that “Red Sparrow” shows is one where humanity is lost by turning the human body into a mere tool to achieve goals.
In reality, at no time does Dominika agree to this way of "working", and she does her best to fight against this system of espionage and use it to her advantage.
So actually the problem is not the amount of nudity of Jennifer, it is more how we interpret them. And so the director clarified.
"Neither I nor Jen wanted to do a s**ns**al thriller." Everyone is going to see the movie because they expect to see a s**xy version of Agent 007 in a woman, but that is not what they are going to find, which by the way, is going to be much better.
