Julia Roberts admits it wasn't a feminist statement when she was caught with unshaven armpits
She became something of a feminist icon when she showed off her unshaven armpits at the 1999 premiere of the film Notting Hill. But almost two decades later, Julia Roberts opens up about her mishap during an interview on Busy Tonight. And as Roberts explains of feminist argument, nothing at all was a full-fledged oversight.
The actress, winner of the Oscar, occupied all the covers of her for those hairs in her armpits that were visible during a moment in which she greeted her fans who attended the promotion of Notting Hill in London.
Ashley Graham, Miley Cyrus or Lady Gaga took her as a role model after what they considered a launch in favor of female hair. Just as they also made famous like Madonna, Drew Barrymore and Michelle Rodriguez.
However, Julia, 51, explains that she, at no time, intended to make a declaration of intent about beauty standards. Those unshaven armpits raised such a stir that Roberts still remembers that: "The image has been repeated over and over in my head since that day."
The problem was that the actress "didn't calculate correctly" how long the sleeve of the dress she chose was, and that ended up revealing "personal aspects of my life."
The conversation came about when the star commented that she had already lost interest in the romantic comedy genre. Speaking candidly, once 'America's sweetheart', she explained that, at a certain point in your life, "sometimes they just don't fit for you."
Julia Roberts has made the leap to television as executive producer and star of the psychological thriller Homecoming. "There's really good content on TV and for me it's not about whether it's a TV show or a movie: it's about whether there's a good story," she concludes.
