True that sometimes actresses have to sleep with directors to get a role in a film
A film director who gave s-**-x-for-roles scandal actress Charlotte Kirk a part in his latest movie after sleeping with her has admitted that their relationship did influence his decision to cast her.
Charlotte Kirk dated director Joshua Newton for five years, landing the starring role in his film 'Nicole & O.J' just weeks after starting a relationship with him.
Speaking exclusively to Mail Online Mr Newton said: 'Charlotte and I were together for five years and it would be difficult to argue that it didn't influence me. But she was given the role on merit and for all the right artistic reasons.
'I didn't cast around for other actresses in the role. Charlotte was absolutely right for it.
'We were just friends for six months and then started a s*-*xual relationship. It was soon after this that I decided she would be the lead actress; she's very talented and also bears an uncanny resemblance to Nicole. The fact that she was my girlfriend had nothing to do with my artistic choices.'
Kirk, 26, has been at the centre of one of Hollywood's most high profile s*-*x scandals after it emerged that she had been having an affair with Kevin Tsujihara, the 54-year-old boss of Warner Brothers.
Text messages published between them suggested he would help her secure roles while they were involved in a s-*-*xual relationship. He stepped down last month.
Prior to this, published text messages also showed that Kirk was having a relationship with James Packer, head of a Warner-based entertainment company and was introduced to Tsujihara by him.
Newton said that he was initially introduced to Kirk in mid 2013 through a mutual friend after she moved to Los Angeles to try and break into the film industry.
He said: 'We had a lot in common and hit it off right away. A strong friendship evolved into something much deeper. We were deeply in love with each other. I still speak to Charlotte a lot. She is a sensitive, caring, loving human being who is being portrayed as a ruthless s-*-*x for roles go-getter. She's been left very distressed by this
I'm very worried about how she's being guided and portrayed in the media.'
Newton said he cast Kirk, from Bexleyheath, Kent, because she bears an 'uncanny resemblance' to Nicole and added: 'Yes, I did give her a big break, but why wouldn't I for someone who was perfect for the role and I loved?'
Newton revealed that during his time with Kirk he was aware of her former affair with Tsujihara, which he insists, was not about her trying to use him to land roles.
Her relationship with Newton may have overlapped with the affair with married Tsujihara in 2013.
Newton said: 'He (Tsujihara) was powerful and influential and that actually turned her on. She was not thinking about using him to get roles because a guy in that position can't help an unknown actor. The film industry does not work like that. When we were together I knew absolutely everything about Charlotte and Kevin being together.'
Newton and Kirk split up six months ago after a series of rows. The couple had been planning to marry and have children while last Valentine's Day the director bought her an £8,000 Cartier diamond necklace.
Newton revealed: 'I was in Cannes, she was in America and we had not seen each other for five weeks. We had a number of arguments over the phone before deciding that we would split up.'
Newton revealed that he does not know if Kirk is in another relationship but urged her to stay away from men in the film industry, given the impact the s-*-*x scandal has had on her. She is currently staying with her family in Kent to get away from Hollywood.
