Another 'Sarah Palin' scandal: now some hackers get into her mail
The scrutiny to which Republican vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin has been subjected in recent weeks has taken another step after a group of hackers accessed her personal email at Yahoo.
Several websites such as Gawker.com and WikiLeaks have released this Thursday photos and excerpts from personal emails that the governor of Alaska has exchanged with her acquaintances, and which were revealed by a group of hackers known as "Anonymous".
The Republican campaign itself acknowledged this Thursday this invasion of the Governor's privacy.
"This is a shocking invasion of Sarah Palin's privacy, and a violation of the law," Republican campaign manager Rick Davis said in a statement Thursday.
"The matter has been referred to the proper authorities, and we hope that anyone in possession of these emails will destroy them. We have no further comment," he said.
FBI spokesman Brian Hale also acknowledged the intrusion and said that this intelligence agency is "aware of the alleged hackers' incident with Alaska Governor Sarah Palin." "We have started to work in coordination with the secret services on this matter," he added.
On the website, Gawker acknowledges that the email account has been blocked, but has decided to leave the images obtained on his website for anyone who wants to see them.
"Here are the captured file images of the emails that were saved before the account was locked, as well as the contact list. It's newsworthy and we're not taking it down," the website states.
Among the list of contacts, the one of her daughter Bristol appears next to her mobile phone.
Gawker complains that by blocking her email, Palin is trying to "destroy evidence," after the Governor was accused of using her personal email accounts for matters related to her public administration in Alaska.
Sarah Palin's family and personal background has come under intense scrutiny since Republican presidential candidate John McCain chose her as her running mate, and it emerged that her teenage daughter Bristol of her, she was pregnant.
