Emma Stone explains why her Cruella didn't use the cigarette from the original version
The protagonist gave a powerful reason why her character did not smoke.
If you are subscribed to Disney + and this weekend you had the opportunity to see the remake of Cruella or you dared to go to the cinema, surely you agree with me that it is a jewel. The performances of the protagonists are a jewel, the fashion is of impact , the soundtrack is great, we just don't have a single complaint.
The only thing that caught the attention of 101 Dalmatians fans is that Cruella's version of Emma Stone didn't use the original's iconic cigar, but there's a compelling reason why she didn't "smoke."
Emma Stone explained that smoking is not allowed on sets in 2021. “We are not allowed to smoke on screen in a Disney movie. It was hard not to have that cigarette holder… she was so excited to have that plume of green smoke in there but it just wasn't possible,” she told The New York Times.
She later added, "I don't want to promote smoking and I'm not trying to promote skinned puppies either," she explained, referring to the fact that her version of her villain didn't have a coat made of Dalmatians.
According to Just Jared, Disney banned smoking in its movies around 2007, and the ban now encompasses Lucasfilm, Marvel, and Pixar.
Unlike Cruella in 101 Dalmatians who wears few looks, the real-life version of the villain wears 47 looks, far more than the original. Fashion is undoubtedly the leading element of the film. The inspiration behind each wardrobe were haute couture designers, and above all, the most rebellious designers in the history of fashion.
Emma Stone's looks were inspired by John Galliano, Alexander McQueen and Vivienne Westwood.
